a most delicious french country home – in my village!

by Sharon Santoni
Today I was invited to take pictures at the home of a friend right here in our village.  You’ll hear more about her later, as I’ll be featuring her as one of My Stylish French Girlfriends.   Her name is Estelle and she writes a French blog called Mo by Maurice, but for now …. I think  you are going to LOVE her home!
[blank]
Her house was built in the late 1800’s, and when Estelle and her husband bought it, it was only used now and again as a holiday home.  They had scope for improvement and a ton of great ideas.  Estelle is a great chineuse, and brought to her new home some of her wonderful brocante pieces that she has collected over the years.

The kitchen is in the lovely old verandah, bathed in bright sunshine and a happy place to be.
[blank]
[blank]The absence of doors and the wide spaces in between rooms gives an impression of ease, comfort and légèreté, airiness! [blank]

[blank] She replaced some of the mismatched old tiling with broad wooden flooring but retained the prettiest tiles in the entrance hall.[blank]

[blank]

[blank]Estelle is very clever at the details … her little vignettes are stunning and practical at the same time.  I love these herbs and plants in baskets on the kitchen table ….

  [blank]and I adore her tiny hand-written calender.[blank]

Voila!  I hope you enjoyed this little tour of a real french country family home, I have a feeling that this one will be popping up quite often

  Bonne journée mes amis![blank][blank]

Oh I LOVE it! I love her use of baskets and natural textiles and colours – and those full height double doors in the 9th images are amazing. I'll probably be shouted down for saying this, but (bar a few details)in the first four images, the house could almost be English – on a rare sunny day of course!

Hello Sharon !
Encore une belle maison ! L'ambiance est sympathique. J'aime bien le plancher dans la cuisine, ça doit être une pièce agréable à vivre et très lumineuse !
À bientôt,

It's charming…so cozy. Elegant but not stuffy. Love the neutrals, garden elements and the occasional architectural piece laying around.

I love so much about this home. We are preparing to move back to the US and our plan is to live in the countryside this time, no more big city life 🙂
So I am saving and memorising all the beautiful details of homes such as this for inspiration in our next new old house. I definitely want to do the tiles on the counters!

Estelle has a wonderful easy style which is hard for most people to create. The layering of textures and elements that 'just work' is a talent. The house has been revived by her touch.

Sharon,

I love the beauty and ease of this home. I love the tiled countertops, and the sweet gathered curtains beneath the counter. This adds such charm to the room. Gorgeous entry tiles and creamy white bowls…comfortable and lovely all in one. Who could ask for more!

Très joli, merci de partager! Love these late 19th century French home entrances, with a more industrial look via the brick decoupage in lay around the door, but still the old world charm.

I am definitely developing an affinity for under-cabinet spaces covered with a cloth (canvas, linen, muslin?) "curtain" rather than a cabinet drawer or door. You had posed this question on a previous post when mulling ideas for your own kitchen remodel. I don't know about the practicality, but I love the look.

I really like the interior of this house. I would like to add that not only does the absence of doors add lightness to the house, but also the presence of correct, glass doors like these https://doors22.com/comparison-of-sliding-glass-closet-doors-choose-wisely/ . The main thing is to be able to choose the right one to stay on the edge of this lightness and not spoil anything
