the candle chandelier

by Sharon Santoni
[blank]How I love candle light … it is kind on  the  face,  soft and romantic,
and ideal for adding a wow factor to a table inside or out.[blank]
Here, in the height of summer, we use candles at every meal.  Small nightlights in jam jars,
tall candles in glass votives and mismatched candles in candelabra and on chandeliers.[blank]

[blank]For a while I used tall candles on chandeliers over our garden dining table, but the slightest breeze bringing drops of wax down onto food and guests put an end to that![blank]

[blank]
[blank]Of course candle light doesn’t mean we can see what we are eating!   No matter how many candles I throw at a table, it’s tricky to see what is on the plate!

But while I always give my guests the choice : the vision or the romance? ……

 candles win every time!

Your dainty candle holders, many of them repurposed by you, are charming.

We love candle light and light candles often on the weekends and especially when people are coming even for a casual drink – they really set the mood.

I love to use candles outside. I usually put all the candles out just in time for the wind to pick up and the rain to pour down and spoil the fun.
I like the ones you have in the trees with the glass beads. Looks so pretty.

I love candles although we don't often use them while we are eating. Sometimes when it's cold and dark in winter I'll light a candles during the day for my own pleasure. It's comforting and I love the light it throws.

Hello Sharon from Carmel by the Sea,

I love candles and firelight…think they enchant our ancient roots.

One of the most incredible moments involving both was at 12M in near-deserted Cannon Beach on the most northern part of the Oregon Coast when I was awakened by cheering from outside on the beach. I went out on the hotel balcony in the freezing cold and around the immense Haystack Rocks where my brother's ashes are were dozens of people cheering, singing, around bonfires and holding torches high in the air. I'd driven all the way from California with my cat. It was my first time, and first night there, and just unforgettable. Total blackness except for all the Golden light around the ancient rocks on the shore. Like a fable from the Merlin Forest.

Gorgeous post–as usual! Thank you,

Suzanne

Hi Sharon I love candles, I tend to light one or two in the house every night, I have a few mercury glass tealight holders that look beautiful when lit. I always make sure never to run out of candles. I love all the ones you have featured above they are all so lovely. Thank you for sharing. Regards Esther from Sydney.

Candles, definitely candles. I love the light they cast, the way the wicks dance, shadows seem to intertwine and everything just looks like a beautiful romantic dream. There are certain guests that share the love of the low lights of candles over the visual arrangement of food.

Love every one of those you found – nothing quite like glass and wire and moss and candlelight – all year around in my opinion.

Candles of all sorts for certain. When safety is an issue, I use battery operated ones placing them in pretty containers. The soft flicker is all anyone sees thinking it real. I'm looking for solar powered lights (that look like candles) to hang from our pergola in the courtyard since there is an abundance of sun in Arizona all year round. Lovely post Sharon xo

I love all sorts of candles and try to apply them only on the evening table…. then comes my husband and turns the electric lights on.All the miracle disappears.I feel always sorry for this moment.Dorka from the Great Plain in Hungary http://www.dorottyaudvar.co.hu

Hanging canning jars as candleholders — what a great idea. I've been collecting odds and ends of holders for a long time; some of them match, some not. But candles, yes!

As a young adult, and the only romantic in my very practical tribe, I would have family dinners where I would rearrange the furniture, offer a cheese tray (no one would touch the "weird stuff") and light the whole room with candles. "How are we supposed to see what we are eating?" they would complain. Most of those folks are gone now, and I sure miss their whining about my getting all "fancy".

I light candles for any occasion. Such a simple thing, yet it adds such ambience and pleasure.

Love, love, love candlelight! But the bugs, particularly mosquitoes win out unfortunately…so we don't eat outside. But what you are showing here is right up our alley! Love the mossy plate with candles! Do I have your permission to pin that on Pinterest?

I love the candles but here in Southern California where we are always on the edge of the precipice in terms of serious fires, we now use fireless LED candles. They don't have the same ambiance but they are certainly safer.
