august giveaway no. 5 – Colleen Taylor artwork

by Sharon Santoni

Here we are at the end of August… boy it went past fast!   The last Saturday of the month and so to my last giveaway of the month.  I hope you’ve enjoyed this giveaway season as much as I did.
Today I am introducing you to a regular reader of MFCH:

a fine artist, by the name of Colleen Taylor.  Colleen paints in Colorado and Arizona, and her work will be on show at the Art of the Southwest exhibition planned for September and October in Arizona.

She loves to paints animals; florals, landscapes and also wall murals , and she takes commissions from individual clients as well as from commercial companies.
I never fail to be amazed by the diverse and fantastic talent of my readers!
For this giveaway, Colleen is generously offering to one of my readers, the choice between these four stunning prints, each depicting beautiful flowers.
The lucky winner will receive one of the  signed prints  in an 11″ x 14″ size on archival matte watercolor paper.  These are acid-free papers  with archival inks to guarantee that will last a lifetime without fading or loss of color.   Paper prints include a 1″ white border around the image to allow for future framing and matting.

All you have to do to enter is take a tour of Colleen’s website and come back here to tell us which piece of her work is your favourite.

If you would like to enter a second time, then just tweet about the giveaway or share the news on facebook.

The winner of this giveaway will be announced next Saturday.

And finally to the winner of last week’s giveaway.   Who will be lucky enough to commission a portrait by the gifted David Terry? …..
the lucky lady is Hilary Coman,
who wanted David to paint a portrait of her black pug Toby!

Congratulations Hilary, please get in touch with me and I’ll pass your details on to David.

PS,  Sandy Messer still hasn’t been in touch to claim her prize from week 2 of the giveaways – you have a couple more days Sandy, but after that I’ll do another draw and  the prize will be given to someone else!

I love the hollyhocks, They grow so beautifully free in my garden and after my Grandmother gave me some china with hollyhocks, I have collected a few more things which together remind me of her.

Wow, how can your artwork be both real and abstract at the same time? The sunflowers blew me away and reminded me of my wedding day when we passed a field of sunflowers in a 57 red and white chevy on the way to my reception. I'd love to have this!

Hey Sharon….

Well, Ms. Taylor is a fine painter. You DO have a lot of talented and generous readers, sharon….but, you already knew that. I'd much rather have one of her pictures than the 1000 or so of my own that I happen to own for the obvious reason.

As for last week's "give-away"?…..Hilary Coman was smart enough to sign her posting with her actual email address, so I'll simply write to her today and arrange the commission.

So, she has a black pug?…..amusingly enough, I was just talking (last night) with a German friend who has constantly had rescue-pugs (two or so at a time, for years). She loves the dogs, of course, but is completely OVER folks' giving her pug-pillows, pug-themed calendars, pug refrigerator magnets, pug-embossed sweatshirts, pug doorstops, pug tea-cosies,pug coffee mugs, etcetera. I kid you not; she has an entire, LARGE closet filled with well-intentioned pug paraphrenalia that she's received over the years and loathes.

I have west highland terriers….and I'm constantly besieged with/by examples of "Westie" (I hate that cute term)idolatry. Since I happen to have the actual dogs in my actual house, I don't really need to be reminded of that fact every time I reach for a "Westie" pot-holder while I'm cooking.

Level Best as Ever,

David Terry

My favourite painting is Sunnyside up. I absolutely love sunflowers. They were the main flower that made up my bouquet at our wedding. We are going to be celebrating our 5 year wedding anniversary next week and the painting would be a beautiful reminder of our wedding day. Lana, Ontario, Canada.

I am crazy about "The Earth Laughs in Flowers" Growing up they were common and we used to make little dolls out of the buds (head) and upside down flowers (dress). Now I rarely see them.

All four of these floral works are gorgeous. Amazing colours, abstract, and yet so realistic. Colleen must be a happy person because these paintings are spilling over with happiness. I really love all of them, but Red Hot Alicias Poppies reminds me so much of running thru the fields in Suffolk, England, on our many trips back home to the village where my mum was born.

I was introduced to pugs by my first boss and his wife who had two fawn pugs. I was astounded by how much pug paraphernalia they had in their home- it blew me away. Fast forward almost twenty years and I think it's safe to say I have almost every pug tchotchke known to man.

Admittedly, I’ve purchased a few of them myself (I tell myself those are the quality items), but once you’re “known” for a breed, that makes it very easy for gift givers. One tip: lots of breed rescues actually sell breed items themselves or have a connection where they get a percentage of sales, so let folks know. Better yet, gift givers may be inclined to support a dog in your honor (versus getting you another mug!)

The black pug and I look forward to working with you. Well, honestly, Toby is sort of oblivious but I’m sure he’ll appreciate the end result.

Hilary Coman

PS Bless your German friend. She is doing so much for the mops!

I love love love "Golden Light", but it's really hard to narrow it down to one. My husband would definitely say "Phil Mickelson". 🙂 But "The Earth Laughs in Flowers" is very very special because Colleen is my cousin and Grandma's favorite flowers bring back all the time we spent on the farm.

Three's A Crowd for Cows is my favorite piece by Colleen. It perfectly captures the nature of these gentle bovines and almost humanizes them, I love that. It's a lovely painting.

These prints available in the drawing are equally as evocative. My favorite, probably because it is close to summer's end and I am such a warm weather person, would be the sunflowers. They make me happy!

"Marcello's Wife" tells a wonderful story, "The Earth Laughs in Flowers" reminds me of a little village we love which sits of the the banks of the Loire and is a wash with hollyhocks and "Red Hot Alicia's Poppies" transports me back to our village in France where the poppies riot on the road verge and through empty fields at the commencement of summer. There are so many beautiful paintings that it is difficult to pick. However, when I saw "Ballerina in Pink" it immediately reminded me of my oldest daughter who danced from age 4 and later on professionally until she retired to have a family. Now her daughter is beginning dance at age 4 and the painting reminds me of both my daughter and now my granddaughter. The circle of life moves too quickly. Beautiful offering for a draw.

I love poppies the way they always seem to dance in a field without a care they always make me smile. The lovely painting Red Hot Alicia's poppies just reminded me of my first glimpse of a field of poppies earlier this season which alas has run it's course and is no more.

Looking through Colleen's website Buck at the wheel also stood out for me, the look of love and contentment in both the man and the dogs eyes made me melt.

Oh to have such talent.

The "Sunnyside Up" sunflowers are my favorite! They absolutely look alive and so real you could touch them! They remind me of the long drive down a dirt road to a small cemetery where my grandmother was being buried. It was in New Mexico and the wild sunflowers lined the road. The sun was shining although it was lightly sprinkling and the sunflowers just glowed the entire way. I think God blessed us that day with those gorgeous sunflowers. I've never seen them look as beautiful since. Connie really captured that glow in this painting. I love it!

Beautiful, light soaked pieces! It almost looks like they melted on the page. I like-"The Earth laughs in flowers", but "The Ballerina in Pink" is my favorite.

"The Earth Laughs in Flowers" is just so beautiful. I also am torn between that one and "Sunnyside Up" but the colors in "The Earth Laughs in Flowers" would be so beautiful in my bedroom. What a wonderful giveaway this is! Like her pet portraits and like the old rusted truck, what a talent and gift she has.

After browsing every painting available on her site, I kept going back to the Poppies. It brought back beautiful memories of a my morning jogs while visiting Roma Italy during the spring time. Bellissimo!

Good Morning Sharon, My word, what a treat to visit Colleen's site, she is a very talented artist. My favourite painting is Sedona's Bougainvillea's, as it transports me back to the time when I lived on the Island of Cyprus. I grew pink and white Bougainvillea in my garden and one of my friends had a very tall pine tree which she allowed the Bougainvillea to scramble up…. which it would do in it's natural habitat.
Thank you for the opportunity to enter this marvellous giveaway.
Best Wishes to you,
Daphne

Either Red Hot Alicia's Poppies, Sunnyside Up, or Sedona's Bouganvilla were my favorites. The colors in all three simply warm my heart. Poppies and sunflowers are my favorite flowers and we were in beautiful Sedona on vacation last Sept. It makes me sad to think my state of Colo. has lost such a fine artist, but Az. Is not too far away.

Colleen's art is just beautiful and I find it very calming. My favorite on her site is "Three's a Crowd with Cows." (I'm not sure I've gotten the name right though.)
As for the four paintings here it's difficult for me to choose between the sunflowers and the poppies. Sunflowers are a favorite of mine but although red hasn't normally been a color I gravitate to the poppies have completely changed my mind. It would be a difficult choice.
Thank you for the chance to win one of Colleen's stunning paintings.

Hello Sharon,
Thank you for the opportunity to become the owner of a painting by such a talented artist. My favourite painting would have to be 'Sunnyside Up' as it brings back such fond memories of a holiday to the south of France where we were greeted each day with the stunning fields of happy sunflower faces.
