les hautes sources – a new place to stay in Normandy

by Sharon Santoni

Out here in the countryside there is no such thing as anonymity, or passing by unnoticed, even when you are just doing ordinary stuff.  But when you create something quite out of the  ordinary, well then you are just sure to draw attention.

I’d like to introduce you to the Les Hautes Sources, (which means the high springs)  a beautiful B&B in our valley that  opened its doors just a year ago and has created quite a stir.

A couple of years ago, this stunning XVIII century home was beginning to show its age, and in urgent need of some TLC when along came  Amaury and Audrey de Tilly, a young couple, only married for five years and with two young children.  They were longing to leave Paris, to change lifestyles and to raise their family in the country.

As soon as they visited this domain, they knew they had found their new home.    The property stands in its own huge park, high on  a hill overlooking the valley.    The house itself and the adjacent buildings lend themselves perfectly to a new life as a guest house.

After a year of careful planning and gentle coaxing by the couple, and with the support and encouragement of their families, the property  has re-emerged in  understated elegance, combining 18th century architecture with a soft French palette of colours and all the modern day comforts that are vital to a traveller’s rest.

Besides the spacious and comfortable bedrooms, guests have a generous sitting and dining room to enjoy, where they can have their breakfast, and also dine.

In the grounds there is a pool and a tennis court, and quite amazingly a tree house that serves as an extra guest room!   This extraordinary construction has central heating and a terrace for enjoying the view.

The tree cabin has a double bed and two singles  … can you just imagine sleeping here with young children, how magical it would be for all!

Being in the same valley as us, the Domaine is only 15 minutes from Giverny, and less than an hour from Paris, a fantastic place for an escape from the city.

If you would like to contact Amaury and Audrey to check availability, you’ll be charmed by their friendly simple approach and their eagerness to please.    A handsome, elegant couple, whose fun portrait on their website says it all!

What a feast for the eyes this place is Sharon! How I would love staying there, perhaps some day. That little tree cabin is precious & the little round windows. I could go on & on…all that grass to mow! So wonderous!

Stunning… It so depicts what we all love about the French countryside…the stone buildings, the rolling hills and the simple elegance and beauty that such a place exudes. Wonderfully done Amaury and Audrey!

It looks wonderful. But check your link — I got the dreaded message.

That should be “404 message.” Sorry about that.

How gorgeous! As I was looking at the photos, my twin daughter saw the tree house and very much want to stay there. They’ve even decided who gets the top bunk!

Someday, we’ll get back to France……
