authentic vintage french style, as lived by the french

by Sharon Santoni

Today is the third time that I contribute to a series about French design, and this month’s theme is Vintage French.

Of course it is different talking about vintage french, when you actually live in France, and the authentic vintage is all around me.

So today I am showing you glimpses of homes that I know and love here, and where the true quality of vintage french is a daily way of life.

These homes belong to friends who love to take care of their home, but who are not aware of creating a ‘french’ look …. they are simply putting together the furniture and pieces that they find locally or from their family, and they take pleasure in using every day.

I find continual inspiration in observing these homes.  I love the juxtaposition of new and old; of perfectly polished antiques  and weathered chippy pieces.  For me it is this effortless mix of styles that is the epitomy of French charm.

And these beautiful laid back rooms are why we try to recreate them here in the states.

Goodness, I missed the 007 party outfit post. What did you end up wearing? I’m dying to know. Your choices were, of course, impeccable. And the relaxing, authentic rooms are lovely. I have many French friends in Houston and their homes are always welcoming and warm. xx’s

These are such effortless depictions that I find many people try to copy in the US. Usually it’s far too contrived from what I’ve seen. Lovely blogs that you linked. Thank you!

Having deep French roots, i understand the French meaning of brocante ” where the French have this saying for the meaning of French Brocante….” Not quite valuable, yet not quite worthless.”
I admire your design style in all your brocante shopping, and the mix of the wealth of beauty you inspire, that wet sink is amazing, so wish I had one 🙂
I find a true rural rustic life here with you and am inspired with every visit….

Love these Sharon!! Yes, they aren’t going for a French look, but it’s the REAL DEAL. I love this look into how people really live in France. Keep it coming!!

I just wanted to say two things….I love the chandelier in the second picture and I also love your statement…”they are not aware of a “french” look…it’s just how they live. And to me that’s what a home is all about. Beautiful post Sharon:)
