a busy weekend ahead and a need for your advice (again!)

by Sharon Santoni

We have an action packed weekend ahead that, besides the everyday stuff,  will include ….

a dinner here on Friday;

a brocante fair in our village on Sunday;

recovering a sofa for my girls’ new apartment and

helping a girlfriend prepare for her party on Saturday …. then

going to the aforesaid party, which is fancy dress,  the theme being ‘007’ !

And of course, with all that has been happening here this week,  it will come as no surprise to you, that I haven’t quite worked out what to wear!

So who do I turn to, when I most need some frank advice?  You! … of course!

There has been great discussion as to what this blogger should wear to the evening.   We quickly established that I would neither spray paint my body gold, nor wear a white bikini with a knife at my hip, but now there are choices to be made.

Given that I don’t have any of the dresses shown here, and that I have spent so much time putting this post together that I don’t have time to go and buy one, what shall I do?!

Any ideas and suggestions gratefully received !

Merci!

PS  These sets were made on polyvore,  if you want to see more then pop over here

Black tuxedo or tux look, with a chiffon scarf tied in a fluffy bow at the neckline for a bit of femme…and load up with the diamonds!

rhinestones, black dress, short for summer, sexy stockings in black of coarse, heels…..lipstick……hair up perhaps…..rhinestones, dangling…….I bet you have tons of these basics in your closet….yet I know how you might wish for a new sexy dress…..if this doesn’t work rhinestones with the perfect, white crispy shirt, cufflinks, or not buttoned, the perfect black blazer (as they where in France as a staple), pencil jeans, super shoes, heels of coarse, dangling again earrings, being comfortable and still chic……:-))) WOW

Do you have a white sheath dress Sharon? I kinda like the idea of white/black/gold – maybe the white sheath topped with a black jacket with gold shoes…I have the perfect pair! But more important – have fun! Sounds like a great weekend ahead for you!

Think Grace Kelly in TO CATCH A THIEF… SAME ERA. I’D WEAR A FABULOUS HALTER SUN DRESS, GREAT BIG FLOPPY SUN HAT, AND THE DE RIGOUR GIANT SUN GLASSES…. VERY ELEGANTLY SPY LIKE. OH, AND A JEWELED CIGARETTE HOLDER.

OR, PUSSY GALORE WORE PANT SUITS…AND THEY ARE VERY IN STYLE NOW. DITTO ON THE GIANT SUN GLASSES.

SOUNDS LIKE A LOT OF FUN. ENJOY.

I don’t live near a fashion mecca as you do so my wardrobe inspiration comes from Michelangelo, “Simplicity is the ultimate spohistication.” I’d pair a silky white top with black pants, strappy black pumps, and pearls. Don’t forget the pearls! Above all, have fun at the party!

Remember the most important thing you always wear is your SMILE!! That said, maybe the unexpected will take the pressure off of trying to wear the ‘perfect’ outfit and no time to shop. Go as ‘James’ instead of one of his beautiful ladies, since you have already mastered that role! Wear any suitable black pants, with a crisp white shirt…with ruffles if you have one, add a black bow tie borrowed from hubby, and add a black blazer…then black staletto heels, gorgeous make up, chandelier crystal/CZ or diamond ear rings, hair in a chinon or up…and red nails and lips…VOILA! If hubby is game…let him wear the long evening gown over some swim trunks and loafers, and get him a wig. No one will stop commenting about the cute ‘couple’ …one way or the other and everyone will laugh themselves silly, including you!! Enjoy a fun evening after all the hard work!!

I for one love the drapey gray number above but since you don’t have that, something cool (if it’s hot) something black or gold (thinking the villain Goldfinger) except you’re anything but a villain) I’m sure you must have something smashing. I love what Lynne above said. Have fun!

Black dress, black strap pumps and pearls!

I agree with Mary,Linda and Helen. Black pants white shirt and pearls with a dangly earring would be my choice. You cannot go wrong. Whatever you wear will be smashing!!

I agree with smile, for sure. Then channel Audrey Hepburn or Grace Kelly and be truly elegant. I’m not thinking tux because that reminds me of Diane Keaton. Simple but jaw dropping jewelry. Elegant, sexy, just out of reach – just Bond’s style. I am sure that you will be brilliant. Let us know what you decide, please.

Take a short black jacket, some black jeans, high heels, a fab scarf used as an ascot, lots of jewelry and you are good to go!

Wear a tan, belted trenchcoat with the collar raised! Perhaps with a scarf or fedora. Sunglasses if possible.

Good luck!

Little Black dress of course…silver jewelry…silver or blck heels…and an intoxicating cologne…James bond in drag…hehehe! have fun with a busy weekend…is Memorial Day weekend in the states…so everyone is wearing themselves out to have fun…we will be spending it in memorial, sadly…celebration of death is a two edged sword!

I concur with the others; Black is always chic! Pencil trousers, velvet trousers, pencil skirt, with crisp white shirt (opened as much as you feel comfortable with) and fabulous jewels. The highest heels you have and, the most important part, a very red lip! Add a sexy updo with chandelier earrings and it’s all good.

Enjoy!

I think you’ve got it wrapped up. Any one of the suggestions that you made on polyvore would be splendid. Love the gold dress for a touch of “Goldfinger” and what man doesn’t look splendid in a well cut dinner suit? Have a fabulous weekend.

No black pants! That’s what everyone will be wearing.
A simply elegant little dress will do!

Just have F U N!!! What a kick to be invited to a formal 007 Party! I must remember that – perhaps for my next BIG PARTY! I’m a silver (not-gold) person so I would be downplaying the gold theme and I gave up heels over 30 years ago (my feet, my legs, my posture and my osteoporosis thank me for that!) but if you must, wear them!

Your polyvore go-togethers all look fabulous! I loved Audrey Hepburn – especially in Charade with the Givenchy wardrobe! I would channel her!!!

Sharon I have an idea… if you can do really extravagant makeup ( think golds and purples) and have a bright chiffony beach cover up or kaftan to wear ( or even scarves pinned together would do nicely ) put your hair up and go as ‘Solitaire’ from live and let die……she must be one of my favourite bond girls
Or indeed, any combination from your boards……gold louboutins yes please ( solitaire would definitely wear those)
Have a wonderful time!! x

Well, if your taking your hubby I would not go as OO7. It would imasulate him and it’s never good to do that even for fun. If you want to have a good time when you get home, and you know what I mean… don’t you? I think the Roger look is so sexy and devine. Wear your hair down and pin it over to the side so he can nuzzle your neck and smell your perfume while dancing. The white dress is a knock out punch for sure. Just earrings and no necklace. The absence of jewelry will draw his eyes to your stunning neck and shoulders. Especially with your dark hair. It’s got to be all about attraction and baby you’ve got the goods so show them off and set your OO7 husband up for the kill in a black tuxedo then watch the sparks fly…
Can’t wait for the pics from this party!

Oh yes. I forgot you don’t have a long white dress and no time to shop. Well, how about what all the Bond Girls end up wearing in the end… a very elegant bed sheet wrapped over a strapless bra and pinned in all the right places. That will knock them dead. Carry a glass of Champagne and strap a toy gun to your inner thy. Uhuh! Look out!

The idea is be a Bond Girl, but not try and replicate one of the looks – create your own image. A very fitted white cotton shirt with a hint of a pretty lace bra underneath – collar turned up – statement necklace tucked into the neckline. Cuffs turned up at the sleeve – add large rhinestone cuff links.
For the bottom – Wear the shirt with a fitted A-line skirt that has a high waist or add a cumberband style belt in the same colour to continue the line. OR – wear the shirt with low waist cigarette pants and a mini belt.
Strappy shoes are a must for Bond Girls – a small purse that will hold your lipstick and revolver. Lipstick is either – bold red or sexy soft ballet pink – both are extremes {don’t do the middle of the road colours we wear every day} that will have Bond listening to your every word.

Ha – ok, I had maybe too much fun with that. Hope you have a wonderful event.

The comments just made my Friday! Bond girls are sexy, smart and very beautiful – you are all that. So, now take the clue and dress accordingly. Just have lots of fun whether you wear the bikini, the gun or just the gown.

I think you either go drop dead glam in long dress and sparkly jewellery or dress up like the characters in one specific film. In From Russia with Love, the Bond girl wore a fur coat and big fur hat (weather bad here in UK ! ) or in Live and Let Die, Solitaire wore a kaftan and had tarot cards, her hair up in an exotic 70s style – Jane Seymour ? !

I would go as Solitaire if invited, you could do some pretend tarot at the party. Have a great weekend.

“Goldfinger” gone Daniel…Sheath yourself in as much gold as you can…gold eye shadow, lipstick, fingernail polish, 60s bouffant, and gold glitter all over. Have fun!
Or you could spice up the party by doing a Halle Berry out of the water wearing a bikini.

oh…and if any glitter gets on your husband’s suit, then you can always tell people you’ve been, “Bonding.” lol

I think you could pull off something very 70s. Get a sari, or sari fabric; should be easy and 1 of 2 things either take it around from back to front and tie the ends at the top behind your back, (can wear a pear of tight cropped pants to ‘match’, preferably Schiap-pink..or turquoise) or using a round metal hoop necklace, take the corner and stich it – or use an existing or purchased faux jeweled necklace; stitch it – only a few stitches will do – wore this plenty in the seventies – making yourself a scarf halter dress….- tied lowish in the back….you’ll have to play with it. But I think if you dare – halter and paisley and either very slick or big hair…have fun!

Solitaire! You couldn’t possibly go wrong with her!

Slip a Tarot set into your bag….

…and look mysterious all evening….

(Don’t go near any small tents though 🙂

When I saw Daniel Craig..first I thought you were trying to tell us you were running off into the sunset with him! What a fun theme…love it, have to remember that for myself:)

You can never ever go wrong with black, whether long or short dress, pile on the pearls and a little bling and you will feel like a million dollars..or a black fitted suit is super chic too maybe with a pretty lacy camisole and driving gloves..now that is Bond girl all the way!!

Sounds like a blast..enjoy!
