sharing secrets, a favourite restaurant …..

chic restaurant at paris flea market

Today  I am talking about my very favourite place to eat when shopping at the Paris flea market  … Ma Cocotte.

The restaurant opened two years ago, and is masterfully designed by French creator Philippe Starck.  The style is a wonderfully chic, relaxed, comfortable mix of vintage and new.  It feels distinctly French, and that impression is reinforced by the menu of very traditional French food.

Stopping here for a weekend lunch is more than just finding somewhere to eat, it is immersing yourself in a lively Parisian atmosphere, where clients and vendors from all over the flea market come together for the shared pleasure of a wonderful meal in a fantastic decor.   This is the place for a family dinner, for a long long lunch with a girlfriend, for a moment of respite after a hard day shopping.

And because this is the restaurant I stop off at after a long shop with a girlfriend, it is also the place I have chosen to finish my September brocante tour this year.   After five days hunting down treasure in Paris and Normandy, we enjoy the last morning together at the Paris flea market, and share a farewell meal here.  I’m hoping that my guests will not only love the décor, they will also adore the delicious French food.

Now that is a fantastic secret to share! Quite a step up from all of the St Ouen bistros of the past. It has been far, far too long since I have been to Paris but I most certainly will be stopping in here when I do…Merci, Sharon…

Off to look up the menu, because I am geeky like that… 🙂

I just read Yelp reviews. It has a 4 1/2 stars. The negative reviews sounded like they were just grumpy people to begin with or just are not foodies. It all sounded wonderful and everyone recommends the half waffle for dessert.

Hi Sharon! Happy September. Such a perfect stop for the end of your brocante tour. I went last January and absolutely loved it – the food, the interiors, the people watching, everything. Hopefully I’ll get back to Paris one of these days and perhaps that would be the perfect spot to meet up for lunch?

Hope your last few days of summer are lovely! XOXO

always nice to see images of restaurants with people IN them…as you have here…it’s what they are made for, after all, to share, yet so often they are empty…

Ahhh, Phillipe. His work is timeless for me. Thank you for sharing this as I know you find only the best of the best. I am very late to the party, Sharon, and am visiting everyone today. Yesterday was MAD!! Thank you, once again, for participating in “By Invitation Only,” as it could not happen without members such as you. Our Queen in the French countryside. xx’s

This restaurant is actually called Ma Cocotte – not to be confused with Les Cocottes near the Eiffel tower – although both are highly rated. Bon appetit!
