carla coulson print of chairs and yellow flowers in a paris park

Such fun last week  when I finally met the über talented photographer Carla Coulson. We’d been trying to get together for ages but she moves around a lot and so do I, so it took a while to come about … but the wait was worth it!

portrait of carla coulson on a bridge in paris, holding a camera

Carla is a warm and bubbly lady, whose enthusiasm for a good picture is totally contagious.  She is Australian, married to an Italian and living in Paris and has written three  books and taken the photos for others.

I often pop over to her blog, in particular to see her latest portrait photography.  Carla has made a specialty of portrait photography, in particular of women, and the results are always divine.

When we met for coffee, she told me about her new on-line store, Departure Lounge where she has just launched her new collection of photographic prints.  You can see them all HERE.  As the name suggests, Departure Lounge is all about her beautiful travel photography,  and she is offering a choice of over 100 photos, that can be printed to the size of your choice.

It was hard to choose but in the end I loved the black and white snowy photos. I wound up chosing the one with the two people in front of the Boulangerie but the Place des Vosges ones were almost an even choice!

I have followed Carla’s journey and beautiful work for years and own all her inspiring books. It would be incredible to hang one of her prints in my home so I can dream of Paris and Italy and so it can inspire my own creative journey. It’s so hard to pick just one (hence all the favourite hearts on Etsy) but I love the photo taken at 3am in Florence in Piazza della Repubblica! “where is she going?” xxx

They are all so beautiful! Had a difficult time choosing a favorite. However, I believe mine to be the one that is taken from the bottom of a long staircase looking up. It’s black and white and the description says it was taken in Montemarte! (It’s description reads Le Boulangerie in Le Marais, but I’m thinking that may belong to the photo with the couple headed toward a Boulangerie! ) either way, I wish I was there again and these photos transport me in spirit!

Choosing one photo is so hard!!! But, if I must, it’s “Paris, Paris Streets, Paris Snow, Boulangerie, Le Marais, Paris Decor, French Decor, Black and White Photography”. I just love it.
We just returned to the states from a 2 year stay in Gif-sur-Yvette, an 45 min train ride out of Paris. Her photos make me want to go back all over again.

My favorite of favorites is the man walking in the snow with the umbrella along the Seine River quay, Paris Streets, Paris Snow collection. The photograph opens for me a large dream room…the silence of the snow, pondering life’s magic, a bearded man, the perfume of wet wool, and once indoors, a neat Drambuie or hot toddie with enlivening conversation.

Love Carla’s photo’s, have her books, and would love to have one of her photo’s to grace my walls, All are fantastic, but there are a couple that stand out for me. One is the snowy Paris scene- I remember it was one of the biggest snow storms to hit Paris , and Carly was out snapping pictures while it was still snowing out and later posted them to her blog. They were surreal and stunning – especially of Paris’s oldest Square and the Place Des Vosges with the fountain.

My other favorite ( if that is even possible for they are all stunning) is the interior shot of the Paris apartment with the parquet floors, the beautiful fireplace, and the walls, and chairs, with the incredible light flooding the room. Like Carly, my heart skipped a beat when I saw this stunning apartment.

I’ve just managed to track down a copy of Carla’s ‘Italian Joy’ online, finally! Awaiting it now in the post. And lo and behold, I discover My French Country Home! A Christmas present to myself this next partnership of portraiture – your shared work of style and substance with Carla. I must be the only one in my adopted country Malta to own some Luxembourg jardin chairs, so I’d choose the soulful shot of them in slight (ever so slight, as it’s Paris!) disarray to give the story behind my pair ‘dehors’ that are soulfully littered with bougainvillea brachts!

I’ve been following Carla’s blog for a while now and enjoy the portrait photo shoots that she does. I so wanted to book a session the last time I was in Paris, but just never got around to it. Definitely for the next trip! I particularly admire her courage when she decided to take her life in an entirely different direction and it’s so wonderful that’s she’s sharing that adventure with us! I also want to learn more about photography with her on one of her Italy workshop vacations….fun & learning at the same time! I adore the winter scenes in Paris, but since we’ll be seeing snow around here in New England sooner than I want, I went looking for something else, lol. My favorite turned out to be “Paris Apartment, Paris Interior, Moulded Walls” which is the first photo you show here on your blog. I just love the time-worn look, the enticement of the bergere chair that makes me want to languish away a snowy Paris afternoon with a flute of champagne & macarons (or any decadent dessert!) close at hand. I would really love this for my sewing workshop as I can imagine this room draped in luxe fabrics and pillows! I think it would provide lots of inspiration for me to create a beautiful room.

Hi Sharon,
I went to Carla’s site and liked the boats with the cars in the background and the montestary. I put the heart on it; but I’m not sure if I did it the right way…

I, too, am married to an Italian, and we’ve enjoyed many months visiting my husband’s family through the years. This picture reminds me of the area he is from. Unfortunately, due to work restrictions, I have been unable to visit for the past four years, and it looks like I won’t be able to get back for several more, at least. Having this print would bring a smile on my face in the meantime.

As a side note, my husband’s cousin from his home town has been visiting with us since mid-September and will be here til 23 December. I’m enjoying her cooking every day!!!

Ciao,
Patricia

It was difficult to choose my favorite, but the boat of the River Seine was so stunning that I would have to choose that one above all the rest. I have soft, buttery yellows in my bedroom – and I feel that photo is “the one” to frame and hang above my bed. Love, love, love!!!!!
