the first spring sunshine

spring flowers on table in the garden

Spring may have officially started, but the weather people tell us that this is going to be the only sunny day this week, so before heading off to Paris for a lunch and photo session, I quickly took a few pictures in the garden.

The first blossom, the first daffodils, some primroses and my beloved forget-me-nots.  Quickly grouped together before planting up a couple of pots.

It only takes half an hour, but it is a shot of colour, of light and of beauty that charges my batteries for the rest of the day.

A huge thank you to everyone who chipped in with their advice and comments on the shared property idea over the weekend.   My friends are thrilled with the feedback – market research has never been this easy!

I shall be writing to many people today with some more details, so if you think you could be interested, don’t hesitate to add a comment or drop me an email and I’ll be sure to send the information over.

Loved your quick spring photo shoot, it’s so pretty. I too love forget – me-nots. Mine are just beginning show in the wild bank of my garden, It’s a good thing that I never weed this part of the garden, or I’d be hoeing them up. Lovely photos.

Just beautiful! I can imagine sitting at this gorgeous table with a steaming cup of coffee, a croissant or even more scrumptious….pain au chocolat enjoying the fragrant spring air in your wonderful garden. We’ve been waiting so long for Spring here, the snow just won’t go away! I think I planted daffodils in the fall, but I honestly can’t remember. I hope so, because I need a burst of their cheeriness. Hope you have a lovely lunch in Paris and a productive photo shoot.

What a pretty color palette! Another rainy day here but Mother Nature had blessed us with daffodils and flowering trees and I can’t complain. At least it’s rain and not snow!! I’m curious about the tree behind the table. It has pods hanging from it – what is it?

Vicky, I think that is a self-seeded hazelnut tree, …. that is living its last hours! I have the saw out and ready to go!

Thank you! These photos sparked that first excitement in me that spring is on the way. NYC is still cold, with patches of snow here in there, so I’ve been patiently trying to enjoy the last lingering days of a long winter. No more – now I’m going to be on the hunt for those first brave treebuds and shoots of daffodils. Time to prep my windowboxes and get out my spring clothes.

Your blog is always my first one that I read. I can’t get enough of it !
Speaking with my husband about your friends who have the terrific idea for a shared ownership, we decided to see what we can learn about being part of the mix. Actually, 6-8 owners would give each owner a prolonged month plus time allowed for upkeep and perhaps squeeze in an extra rental or two. One also has to consider time for maintenance at certain times of the year.
Now, whenever things get going, and progress becomes evident, We would be so happy to be included depending of course in costs and conditions.
(We are just now peeking our heads above the snow on Cape Cod)

Here as well Sharon. A gorgeous sunny day today. In fact I am going to get out and spray some patio pieces. Rain coming in though, which we need for our spring flowers!

Beautiful thank you, I also love my forget me nots here in Australia. We are starting autumn still warm with slightly cooler nights. Looking forward to our holiday soon spending April and May in Spain and Portugal and will pop over to beloved France from San Sebastián and see the south western area. Hope it’s a littler warmer and there are spring flowers. Spring is the best time in the garden anywhere.

Hi Sharon, you know how much I love Forget-Me-Nots but we keep ordering, planting and loosing them, don’t you just hate that. I have more Daffodils to be planted sometime in April and my Tulips, now don’t laugh at me over here we are meant to keep them in the crisper part of the fridge for one month and they only flower once, you have to replace them each year. But your photographs are just beautiful. Thank you for sharing so much beauty. Till next time regards Esther from Sydney.

Please send more information about the shared property idea. We are hoping to come in early May to France. Just saw a wonderful movie in French “The Grocer’s Son” with great scenes all through Provence. We still have a great deal of snow still melting here in central New Hampshire. Your garden photos make me sure there is hope that spring will come. Thanks for the blog and sharing your beautiful area with us.

After a long winter, the scents and colours of spring flowers are just beautiful and so inviting. Just a simple jar of daffodils or primroses planted in a vintage china tea cup bring joy to the day. Thank you so much for an inspirational start to my day.

Thank you for sharing your gorgeous garden with all of us….just beautiful! The mounds of snow have just retreated from the garden here in the True North. My garden table has just reappeared or at least I can now see the cover that protects it during the winter. Forget-me-nots are still a long way off making their appearance so in the meantime, I will gaze longingly at your garden and just imagine a warm spring day and the smell of the earth…..

Love your garden scenes and beautiful Spring flowers! I just mentioned the Normandy “time share” to a friend and she had an interesting comment (besides being excited!). She said her Danish friends who do this have contracts written up for each person, even if they are a couple as it saves a lot of heartache, mess, should one of the “couple owners” ever split up. I thought that sounded like a very practical idea – maybe like a pre-nup and one wouldn’t like to think of things going awry, but they sometimes do!

Be anxious to hear about the property and plans, specifics! Thanks!

So lovely Sharon. Autumn here with our vine on the patio those glorious reds and golds. The last flush of roses (hope they last until Easter – needed for daughters’s wedding) and beautiful days. Best time in Cape Town.
