the fall table in white and being interviewed by Vicki Archer ….

white pumpkins for a fall table

This morning I am thrilled to be interviewed by  Vicki Archer, blogging royalty for sure, and a girl I am happy to count as a great friend since our blogs and similar sense of aesthetics and life-priorities have drawn us together, and we often meet  for long conversations over coffees and lunches in Paris.

I’ll let you go over to Vicki’s blog to read my interview, which was fun to put together.  Today,  I wanted to share my favourite décor this year for my fall table.  Feeling slightly overwhelmed by the strong colours all around me in the valley right now,  I have been looking for some calm indoors and of course turned to my favourite café au lait dahlias.

I’ve also been inspired by the chinoiserie pumpkins that have popped up all over the net.  Luckily we grew some  white ‘patissons’ in our vegetable garden this year, so all I needed was a little paint, a few design books to help with the motifs.

I went with brown which seemed to fit my autumn mood better than blue.  They are not perfect, but it was fun to do and looked quite effective in the middle of my Sunday table this weekend.   Of course they wont last for long, but ephemera is what I prefer, so that is fine too.

And finally for all of you who are waiting on dates for the brocante and antique buying tours in 2016, you will all receive email this week – that is a promise!   Thank you for your patience.

Total brilliance, Sharon! The chocolate pots ooze so much charm and the playful painted pumpkins extend an invitation ‘to come to the table’. How do you grow such perfect white dahlias? Adore all the textures on the table….just lovely.

This is an inspiring table. I love the brown and am so glad you did not do blue for Fall. The
White dahlias are most beautiful, wish we could grow them in the Southwest desert. The
White pumpkins with your clever designs are perfect. I have antique Spode bird plates
In brown. They would be beautiful with your table. Love your settings as well. Very partial to birds. Happy Fall and thank you for your blog. It is perfect as well.

Love the white dahlias. I must try and grow some next year. Brown is not my favourite colour but you make it look stunning. Maybe white and gold at Christmas?

Love the brown and white chinoiserie. Seems a little more tallish than blue and white somehow. You’re blessed with many talents, Sharon.

Thank you for another beautiful blog post, Sharon. I too, have changed my decorating colours from blue, yellow and white to taupe and white. I’m not sure why but it just felt right and I love the softness of the combination. My whole house seems lighter and brighter…ready for summer!

Those covered mugs with the birds, gorgeous. I’ve not seen them before and wonder if they’re French. I hang around brocantes etc. and they are not familiar. Your creamy dahlias are also delicious. I’m rethinking dahlias now that I’m moving to a property in Provence that has a well and a source, meaning I can water if I want to. I have been growing almost exclusively plants that can tolerate the Languedoc heat without water. I’m very happy with “fitting in” to the landscape, but now I may branch out a bit since I have my own water!

Lovely – calming and elegant. An interesting change from the expected russets of purples of fall.

I so enjoyed reading Vicki’s interview with you Sharon. Your tablescape is so inspiring…..what a fabulous idea! I forgot to grow these lovely white squashes this year which I usually have in the kitchen garden, but will grow them for sure next year. The paint design is stunning. Best wishes from a drizzly Kent!
