roses to the rescue

Here in the northern hemisphere we are at that time of the year where we need a serious dose of colour and floral softness.   Today my desk is coloured with roses.  The great thing about flowers is that they don’t have to be sophisticated or complicated.   With the garden still in winter mode, and able to offer little more than greenery, this is the time when I’m grateful for good florists who keep their store well stocked with temptation in all colours.

These beautiful parma roses came home with me this week and I love the way their colour plays against the soft pink of the tarnished copper bowl.

To add a little movement to the bouquet, I trimmed a couple of wavy tendrils from a honeysuckle in the garden and cut the roses fairly short , so they nestle against each other rather than standing straight.

On another note, several people have emailed me saying they are having problems leaving comments on the blog.   We apologise, but we can’t  work out where the issue lies.   If you don’t manage to leave a comment, maybe you’d be kind enough to send me an email saying which browser you are using and whether you have tried clearing your cache – thank you for your help!

I hope that you had a great weekend and that, like me,  you’ll find a way to add a little colour to your week ahead.

As our summer is coming to an end in Tasmania we are looking forward to our Autumn flowering. The joy before our winter starts.

Stunning roses. We have daffodils in flower now, suddenly the chicken garden is a blaze of colour and today I cut a large bunch for the kitchen table. Like you I need flowers in the house. Tiny violets are adding a splash of purple all over the lawn and primroses too. I have spotted mimosa flowering alongside the road and the plum trees are literally days away from blossoming. Just another month and everywhere will look so different!

After more than 12″ of snow all day yesterday, I need this splash of springtime color and beauty! So jealous of Our French Oasis….I could just see those daffodils and violets in my mind. I know they’re buried out there on my front lawn too and hopefully will be returning soon! Ahhh, for now I’ll have to enjoy the beauty of all this white stuff, lol

They are gorgeous! I must have flowers in the house year round. They do bring such joy on a winter, gloomy day.

I’m not usually a fan of roses, but those are beyond beautiful. I have never seen that purple/lavender color before.

Thank you for sharing such a beautiful arrangement. A wonderful orchestra of color and the honeysuckle tendrils are a perfect accompaniment. This time of year, I have a heightened longing for the beauty of flowers while my world outside is covered in snow.

As I begin to plan this year’s garden layout and prepare an order to my favorite seed supplier, I am making room for more flowers. I would like to bless others and surprise them with arrangements, praying that the Lord directs me to whom needs them. A flower ministry of sorts….

If you have the time and desire, I (and maybe other readers of your blog) would love any recommendations on which flowers to cultivate (from seed or plant)that are good cut flowers.

Kindest Regards,
Malinda

In The Arizona desert, at this time of year, we strip our rose plants and trim them back for a total rest. Our beds are bare. Your roses are absolutely
Stunning. Thanks Sharon.

Hi Sharon, I love roses and these beauties are exceptional. Our sun has baked quite a few of our plants, but we can count on the Roses and Frangipani to come through. Thank you for sharing beauty. Till next time regards Esther from Sydney.

so happy to have found your site Sharon. this post brought me back to this Summer when I took a river cruise on the Seine. In one small town where we walked I remarked that after going around one block there were three flower shops. I try to keep a bouquet of fresh flowers in my home all the times now, as a little memory of my time in France. Your roses are just stunning!

Sharon, thank you for sharing these beautiful flowers. Like you, our winter season doesn’t offer much, mostly brown branches; so color is always welcome. Have a wonderful day my friend and since I am seeing it on Valentine’s day. Happy Valentine’s Day to you and yours. Hugs and blessings from Dove Cottage

A beautiful arrangement to lift the spirits. We were out in the garden this weekend tidying and pruning. So good to see the buds forming and the promise of more colourful days ahead. Have a good week.
