peonies in the rain

by Sharon Santoni
Β [blank]Days are warm and nights are stormy this week, which may sound good but it is bad news for the peonies, out in full and heavy flower.
There is no choice but to cut the blooms and use them in the house.[blank]
[blank]Here I teamed the huge peony blooms with sprigs of climbing hydrangea, a few branches of cow parsley and the tips of lupins that were going to seed and needed cutting back.[blank]

As usual, putting the bouquet together is a moment of true pleasure for me. A flowery interlude in a busy day, just enough to recharge my batteries and set me up for the next task to hand!
I hope you are enjoying your garden too, and managing to bring some favourite flowers indoors.[blank]

Now I was always told that bringing cow parsley indoors was bad luck, but you seem not to suffer so perhaps I'll pick some as I wander the lanes…

and elderflowers for cordial…

it's such a fragrant month, isn't it?

Hi Julia

I never heard that about cow parsley! I use it all the time, sometimes just big bouquets of cow parsley with nothing else – love it!

The elderflower is amazing this year too

Sharon,
The peonies are stunning…the silver lining for rain is bringing in the peonies. πŸ™‚ I love the lupine texture contrast with the peonies. So, are you now sitting down for a cool drink and for reading a few pages? Looks very inviting…

The flowers are just wonderful, in fact if I could think of a better word to convey I would use it. You are so talented to bring it all together into a piece of art. I just love it.

btw, I am still laughing about Ghetto. If he were a child, he would be total ruined by my laughing at his bad behavior.

That is just stunning… We are at the start of winter the roses not so good. The camellias are nearly finished all the flowers are on the ground thanks to the native birds that seem to be enjoying something that's in the flowers. Hi Sharon your bouquet is breathtaking I am jealous and can't wait for spring. You have inspired all of us to look at our gardens and imagine the possibilities. Till next time Regards Esther from Sydney. PS love Ghetto and his antics it made my day.

Stunning, Sharon. I'm sorry the weather is shortening the life span of your peonies, but you certainly made beautiful work of them. You're so talented. It's our roses that are flourishing this season, providing a steady supply of cuttings for my nightstand.

What a beautiful arrangement, and especially nice to include the lupines. I live now where it's too warm for them, and lilacs, and miss them both.

Your arrangement is gorgeous and inspiring. Like you, I enjoy my moments of creating bouquets from the flowers in my garden. It's my favorite homekeeping task, and a lovely, refreshing artistic moment in my day. I grow about 40 different types of peonies in my garden, so June is always a spectacular month for flowers! LOVE your blog, and adore your bouquets! πŸ™‚ Gwyn

I love these flowers! I guess there had to be one thing wrong with Santa Barbara! Peonies won't grow!

I do adore them! Trader Joe's to the rescue!

Not the same; but a lovely substitute!!

What a great post!

Hi Sharon!!!

Your peonies are so gorgeous!!! We had a house once that had 9 bushes of peonies and every year I would fill the house with them. I love the way you arranged them on a beautiful table with drinks at hand to enjoy a break from the day!!

Enjoy the rest of the week!!

I am so incredibly happy that I have found your blog. I can daydream that I live in France, amongst your gorgeous garden but in reality I am in a rather wet Australian winter.
