Since the beginning of my blogging days, I’ve been fortunate to meet and make friends with some very talented and generous people. I was lucky to start blogging at a time when readers could sign up to follow their preferred blogs and before the days of the big newsletter blasts. There was more of an intimacy to the process, and blogs were read differently, as our audience popped around to visit each of their favorite blogs each day. This is one of the big things about blogging, the way that it draws people together.
Between women bloggers there has always been a special camaraderie. We are generally very generous in our support of each other’s projects, and we love to encourage each other to go further.
One of those precious links that grew from blogging is with my friend Jeanne McKay Hartmann. Jeanne is from Seattle but travels to France very regularly in search of inspiration for her paintings. Whenever she comes across we meet up for lunch or tea in Paris, and follow each other’s paths closely.
Over the years, Jeanne has become a celebrated artist and illustrator recognized for her lively colorful watercolor creations that bring charm to everyday life. Her artwork has been showcased in prestigious publications like Better Homes & Gardens, and in association with renowned brands like J. McLaughlin, Draper James, and Laurent Perrier Champagne.

Also, I have been to the South of France a couple of times with my Austin Texas art instructor to paint the beautiful landscape there. Watercolor is my favorite medium. I miss those early days of blogging too. There was a real sense of community back then, where you felt like you were getting to know the bloggers and other readers on a personal level. Following favorite blogs daily felt like catching up with Soccer Skills World Cup, and the comments sections were like little online living rooms. Nowadays, things are definitely more fast-paced, but it’s awesome that blogging can still connect people in so many ways.
