le sapin de noël

by Sharon Santoni
Braved the snow this morning to drive to the farm where I always buy our sapin de noël.  I know the Christmas trees here are locally produced, and the staff incredibly patient when I want to look at a dozen before choosing!

Love their unharvested apples that look like they’ve been left to decorate the orchard.
At home, the tree was cut slightly to fit, then stood in a bucket with stones and sand, and given it’s first watering.  I find that this size tree can drink about 3 pints of water a day.  Just like fresh cut flowers!
Hesitated about leaving the tree with lights only …. but  … no, it’s irresistable to dig out the trunks of decorations from the barn and rediscover the old favourites.
Roasted chestnuts on the fire while we decorated – love that fragrance
How about you, is your tree up yet?

Your tree looks beautiful. Isn't it lovely how the tree with all its trimmings makes evenings at home so special.

Haven't roasted any chestnuts yet but it sounds like a good idea.

The finished product MUST be beautiful…The tree was lovely with just the lights – but I'm sure with all those beautiful ornaments it is most stunning. I would have loved to sit by the fire, smell the chestnuts, and watched the "evolution" of the tree.

As a penniless law student thousands of miles away from home, I'm afraid I don't have much more than a few cedar twigs stuck in a glass jar. Yet your post today made me feel instantly cozy and in the Christmas spirit.

Your blog continues, in its own way, to be one of the most uplifting little gems on the internet. -Clayton

Oh, your lovely tree. We will be "getting out our tree" today. Sadly my darling husband is so allergic to the pine. Open air is one thing, but in a closed winter house . . .he suffered mightily for my love of the real deal, but I couldn't stand seeing him so uncomfortable at Christmas. We don't have a real tree, but we have many beloved decorations to soften and brighten the tree. xo

S, beautiful tree! We got ours yesterday, locally from a grower in our town. My 13 year old son is insistant upon choosing the right tree and we walked miles and kept changing our minds. Thank goodness my husband was very patient! The lights and decorations are going up today . . .I hope mine looks as lovely as yours . . .

Love your tree. Have also gone to artificial for lots of reasons – the best being so that I can leave it up for a month! Hope to put it up early this week.

It's the rediscovering old favorite ornaments that makes the whole thing right! Thanks for sharing your lovely tree. I can nearly smell it!

Beautiful tree, my kind of tree, a bit bare on top and in need of love which you have provided.
I linked you up on my blog again, not for that giveaway, which I lost, just because.

Quel beau sapin! Our tree isn't yet up, but it's soaking in a bucket of water. Perhaps tomorrow night.
