French decor, my colour comfort zone

by Sharon Santoni
Do you find yourselves naturally drawn to the same colour palette for your home and decoration; pretty much the same family of colours no matter what fashion dictates?
I realise that while we’re fairly bold with colour in our home, the hues of my living room have evolved little over the past 20 or so years, despite house moves and frequent redecoration.  These are my comfort colours, to me they talk of peace and well being.
These photos show a French home that I would happily live in.  It’s not showy, the colours are calm, it’s uncluttered – grey, celadon, muted golden beige, I can go there …

Beautiful home…I love those muted colors. For some reason I have a lot of beige and mossy greens, including wallpaper. Both deep and pale colors. I am hoping to paint over some of the green with a more cottagy ivory shade.

Jane

Mine is much like yours. I like warm colors, mostly yellows, but pale. I have a sofa that is olive green, but sage and pale greens please me. I like the idea of white rooms but my husband wishes for "just a little color" .. I look forward to the next house that we decorate. I am so much better prepared, thanks to the bloggers who share .. ( that would be you 🙂

I strive for bright, bold colors. Our bedroom is a deep pumpkin, our bathroom grass green and the kitchen is painted red.

You would be so bored with my home. It's all painted the lightest possible aqua.

In a previous house I had the lightest possible grassy green – imagine the first spring blades. I always knew it was too yellow and that I wanted something warmer, but I had to match an olive plaid sofa that I inherited. It came with my husband!

When I gave our builder the swatch, he did not want to paint my color. But when it was done and white wall-to-wall installed, he loved it and used it in his next spec house!

I use hunter green, rust and purple with it and we have put in hard wood floors. I just love the feeling when I open the blinds in the morning. It's always spring.

I have a dark house so I use white. White with grey sometimes and splashes of reds and rhubarbs.

I love the palette and feeling in these photos. My palette is very similar – variations on white and pale, earthy tones of gray, brown, yellow, green.
I love the color purple, it really speaks to me, but in my home, I want calm and serenity. Thanks for ALL your inspiring images!

I love colour in deep/rich but bright shades. I need to feel warm. Different areas of our house are different colours with feature walls. Sounds strange but it works for us.
I love many different styles, including French, and white/neutral themes too and love looking at how other people decorate their homes.

I love greys and whites and worn in colours of the same shade, rough timber and accents of charcoal. Great pics!

It has to be off-white, grey, coir/wood flooring with accents of old red to give it some oomph!

That's a beautiful home, I could live there. We had rich colors in our home but slowly but surely they're going more neutral. We're updating our colors.

I'm definately with you there! Although I do love all the splashes of wild colour now and then, like the yellow blanket on the day bed there,it would definately be a temporary feature in my own home as it would "agresse" me after a while. I think the fact that we have 5 children who all wear different colours is enough for my eyes to handle, so the background really needs to be somewhat "calme".

Greys, greys and more greys. Just love that colour(s), white trim and dark wood floors, and a hint of darkish beige.

I always return to whitish and grey, natural fabrics and floors, or whitish and soft blues and browns. Sounds a bit monochrome, but I get bored with bright colours really quickly. Cushions and rugs come and go to give some sharper accents. You know those colours of Paris buildings – sandstone, grey window-frames and slate roofs, black iron railings – love that combo and keep returning to it. We have both posted examples of it.

Yes I do find I have been very consistent with my love for the same palette. Neutral with some subtle punches of color here and there, no bright colors..ever. Beautiful and thought provoking pictures. Have a wonderful day!

Beautiful photos! Yes, I am always attracted to the same type of colors – what I like to call "stepped on colors". I like color but it has to have a slightly dirty quality to it. I don't particularly care for bright and clear hues. That's why I love Farrow and Ball so much – their palate for the most part is like that.

I would happily live in that house, it's gorgeous. I am always drawn to earth tones and soft whites. We just finished a bathroom renos and the paint on two walls is called light rafia. Please come by and have a look!

I love soft, muted tones in my own home too! I am always drawn to soothing blue/grays, ivories, soft golds and creamy taupes. They are my favorites! Beautiful pictures!

I'm forever posting the white/cream/beige look but honestly, my house is full of color…lots of it. I think that may be why I post the blissful look of the non color, it's so restful! xoxo beth

I also am drawn to the white/cream/beige look but if the house isn't vintage, it doesn't seem to work for me. I love a beautiful antique piece to make the boldest statement in a room. Everything else fall second. I also love lots of textures: pewters/wood/stone/textiles/tiles/

Lovely home, but some of the walls look like they need a little wipe down. lol. I am a neutral girl for sure.

Beautiful and soft color palette throughout! The colors don't fight the beautiful floors and furnishings. I love to use soft greys, blues and creams in my house, as well! Gorgeous photos!

I love those colours as well, although I also like some stronger shades. I have to say that through the years I never stray too far from blues, and gray-blues. I've always liked them.

What a gorgeous home…all of it. My home is white and black and every shade of that…I like it that way, but every once in a while I feel the need to add some color…mostly after reading/seeing blogs with a little color. I'm thinking pink…

I like the fact that it is nondescript, the colors are calm, there is nothing superfluous, it really looks very harmonious. Good ideas and I like the way it looks. I love beautiful things that are used in room decor, lamps, vases, all of which can make a big difference in a room. I often find something like this in a specialized store – https://www.luxuryco.com.au/ where I shop

Amazing photos. I adore design and love creating collages. And thanks to environmental pictures, I was able to create a unique collage. Now I work with different stock photos for my projects.
