blogging – a procrastinator’s dream

by Sharon Santoni

Yesterday afternoon had been set aside in my mind to make some cushions.  It was cold outside, the dog was asleep, my emails were up to date, the children at school until 6, even the house was clean and  tidy.  No excuses, I could settle down in my sewing room and have time to make the pillows I have promised  my daughter for her bedroom

You can tell where this is going can’t you ………….  Before I start sewing with vintage fabrics I always spend time checking for marks or flaws, experimenting with complimentary patterns and matching the cuts of fabric to produce the best result.

Well yesterday, the fooling-around-with-fabric took over from the real-task-at-hand and an hour later I was having such fun that I had even got out the camera.   So once I had the camera going, I just had to tidy all the shelves and sort the threads, and arrange the pins on the pincushion ….. and lo and behold I ran out of time to actually make anything at all.

But excuse me! …  I do have a blog to write after all.

Yes, that is the advantage of being a blogger, that even procrastination  can be justified if it results in a couple of pictures

I hope your day is going well, and that you – unlike myself – will
finish the day with a tidy list of chores all ticked off, done and dusted.

PS to my daughter:  don’t worry honey, you’ll get your cushions!

It seems that this procrastination is happening everywhere. That has been my pattern of the recent weeks.
But you had an enjoyable time taking pictures, so all was not lost.

Hi Sharon, What you did was just as important, sorting and playing with combinations and taking pictures for us. You will be ready to sew pillows next time. Beautiful Fabrics!

I think we are all feeling the darkness of the cold winter, making it a little more difficult to get going on things.

These fabrics are breath taking… can't wait to see the finished pillows. xo HHL

I'm so jealous that you can even consider whipping out a few cushions out of those lovely fabrics! I'm hopeless with a needle and thread – my darning ends up looking worse than Frankenstein's scars (or so notes my young boys!). Maybe if my sewing nook looked as good as yours… Cynthia

Wonderful fabrics. Organizing is so much fun. It's procrastinating with a sense of accomplishment.
Have a great day,

Also Sharon, I loved the perfect space you created. Pillows will be done in no time now.

I stumbled across your beautiful blog today, from following Rose- A Femme d'Un Certain Age who is following MaiTai's Picture Book. I digress, I ended up here and was delighted to see a lot of similar fabrics that I have collected under the premise of 'doing something utterly gorgeous with them….one day' I had to laugh, your post so echoed my self same behavior last time I planned to get busy with the creating, happily my fabrics look wonderful, well organized and ready…and have been that for, ooo, I don't actually want to admit how long! LOL!
I think part of the joy of creating is the accumulation of all things that make your heart sing, and putting them together in a pleasing way, is in fact creating no? Sewing or organizing, its all creating, its all good! 🙂

Bonjour Sharon. You had me at "the children do not return from school until 6:00pm." Wow. Ever since my son started school here in the United States, my "work" days have stopped at 2:30pm. This does not leave much room for procrastinating, I am afraid. What needs to get done (house chores, errands, teaching, blogging) needs to get done between 9:00am and 2:30pm. That is that. Looking back at the years when I was growing up in France, my stay-at-home mom must have really enjoyed her free time while my brother and I were in the [capable] hands of the French public school system. 😉 Veronique (French Girl in Seattle)

It's so easy to procrastinate this time of year too. It's a sleepy, slower time of year. We DO need to fill it with fun things, and taking photos is SO much more fun than… chores. Your pictures are wonderful, btw. The fabrics are so lovely. I would want to take pics of them too. 🙂

I just learned how to do "Pinterest" a few days ago and all productivity has been shot. My eyes are almost bleary as I juggle learning this and scouring all internet images and holding down a full time job. My teenage son told me that this was what some "middle aged moms" do all the time. Eeks. I guess that was payback for not appreciating all the video games he gets lost in….:)

I adore all of the fabrics, but my favourites are the mattress materials. Also the cushion covers you made are so nice I want to go out, buy fabric and make some myself. Mind you I have not used a sewing machine in over 20 years.
