If you read my blog now and again you know how I like to encourage you to daydream.
Here is today’s muse. Just imagine: …..
you have 187,000 spare euros and
a truck load of energy and ideas;
you like to ski;
you like to surf;
you like to live in the country;
you would enjoy life near a small rural French town;
you like good wine…
How are you doing? OK, if you have ticked more than half of the above then maybe you should take a look at this place. It’s just a shell I know, but at just 1400 square feet it isn’t too big and, most importantly, it has good bones. Indoors it will be a very symmetrical lay out, rooms leading off a central hallway and central landing upstairs.
This is an abandoned farmhouse, probably around 150 years old. It has four main rooms and a lovely sweeping staircase. Looks like more rooms could be created in the eaves of the roof.
You have to ignore the horrible green walls and think of the same space in a different colourway.
The farm comes with 3 hectares (or over 7 acres) of land, and a view over to the Pyrenees mountains.
It’s within 90 minutes of the surf beaches in Biarritz, and close to the region

and its closest little town is Nay.
I have never been here, and the house doesn’t even belong to anyone I know, I just found something I thought you’d enjoy restoring virtually while you go around your chores today!

About five years ago while living in London and feeling totally burnt out, I attempted to find a way to to live out this dream on a daily basis! My husband and I even made appointments and went to see several properties in Normandy very similar to this. Having had three children in quick succession (including unexpected twins!)we were determined to 'change our lives' and to do something radical. We ended up 'chickening'' out of a total cultural and language change, and 'settled' for beautiful Norfolk in England. I truly LOVE my life in the English countryside, but – especially when I see properties like these – a part of me wishes that we'd been a little bit braver! I love to daydream and it is so easy with the internet to look at properties at home and aboard. You never know one day the dream may come true!

The farmhouse is a feast for my eyes. I could spend all day dreaming about what I would do to it. If the house has good bones then the rest comes easy!
It is so lovely and the little city of Nay is perfect. What a wonderful place to live!

I found two lucky pennies last week – both heads-up! So I gave one away and bought a lottery ticket for a $50 million draw for last Friday! I haven't checked the ticket yet so for the next few moments I'm going to live the dream!
To look at my beloved Pyrennees every morning would be a dream,….
It's official: I think that you are an even bigger real estate geek than I am! 😉 At least I stick to my own region–you outdid yourself this time, Sharon. And thank goodness, this property is good for several hours worth of "if I could, I'd…"–that view! Those bones! Whew.
This is super cool. I can picture myself in the remodeled kitchen cooking for friends- and oh wait- I have to go out in the back garden and cut some more rosemary… Because it doesn't winter kill there. Ahh… Wine, skiing and surfing? And in Basque country… A good friend of mine is from Biarritz!

Sharon, Nay is very near us! In fact the farmhouse is typical of many round these parts, so many of them lying derelict or neglected due to family squabbles etc. Just waiting for someone with imagination and flair to do them up and breath new life into them. If I took a photo of our downstairs entrance hall and staircase you would be amazed, the layout of the house in your picture is identical to ours!

Wow! These houses can still be restored; a little paint job, and the replacement of the roofs and windows, and it's good to go. These houses can be a good space for an apartment, it is so spacious, and almost two families can live here. So, what do you think? It's a nice idea, though.
There’s something exquisite about those more than century-old farmhouses. They’ve grown to be more of a sight as years go by, well, they are history. Looking at the photos, with renovation and some fixing, they’d still make a practical abode.
Those properties totally need tender loving care! It certainly needs a new coat of paint which will add aesthetic presence without decreasing its classic appeal. Restoring an old farmhouse will definitely be a fulfilling sentiment since you can be a great part of such beautiful change. =)
