being thankful

by Sharon Santoni

Today I have been thankful for
°°°°°°°°°°°°

the autumn colours on the trees

my dogs so pleased to see me

the warmth and kindness of family life

my sons laughing out loud as they chat to  friends

my husband watching out for us

my freedom to manage my time

the company of new friends and old

the warm breath of my horse as he nuzzles my hand
the beauty of my daughters
the moodiness of the evening clouds

music in the house

family and good health
°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°
Giving thanks and taking time to count our blessings,

wishing a very happy thanksgiving to my american friends

I love your list of things to be thankful for …….. it is so easy to be caught up in the "urgency" of modern day living. Warm wishes

I loved your daughter comment on this!
And this is really a great post. We should always count our blessings, even and above all during hard times.

I wish we had a Thanksgiving Day in Italy too!
It is such a beautiful, precious festivity.

I'm not sure what touched me more your heartfelt thankful list or the loving dialogue between you and your daughter.
May your days continue to be filled with this abundance of blessings.

Thank you Sharon. Thanksgiving Day is my favorite holiday. It is important to always be aware of our blessings. If you will indulge me, I'd like to share one of my favorite quotes on this special day:

"Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow." ~ Melody Beattie

Your list is charming, Sharon. And heart-felt. I love the specifics of many of your items – your husband looking out for you, your daughters' beauty. I sometimes look at my beautiful children ( and now two little granddaughters) and wonder at their beauty.

I think it is very special that you acknowledge your American friends' holidays! Thank you for all the good thoughts. Certainly lists and prayers of thanks are universal!

Looking so forward to seeing what you come up with for the Christmas holidays ahead; I imagine you'll have snow!

I went back and read the other comments. Your exchange with your daughter brought a wistful tear to my eye. I don't have children and always dreamed of having a daughter. How wonderful that have a loving relationship with yours! The Thanksgiving Day holiday can be a little difficult when family is small, so it's great to see a wonderful quote like Christina's of Los Angeles and to keep an eye on gratitude. I also live in West Coast-USA and I'm grateful for our beautiful day today, sunny and cool, the ocean visible in the far distance, easy breeze and 68-degrees(F) at noon. We walk around in sandals and shorts. There is food on the table, our neighbors are friendly and my dogs are loving the warm sunshine coming through the south windows onto their cushion of a favorite bay window seat. It's a good day. And we need to make all the good ones count!

Enjoying a beautiful warm and sunny Californian Thanksgiving Day where we went to the coast to watch the larger than normal waves breaking. I was definitely thankful for the display that nature put on today, as well as having a loving family. I am glad that my children spend time volunteering too, in spite of busy work schedules, as thinking of others is very important. It is definitely my favorite holiday in America although commercialization is trying to creep in. Blast you, Walmart!

Thank you for your thoughts and kind words. Our family has changed dramatically in last year. But as we gathered this day we tried to concentrate on what we have, not what we have lost. Our two missing family members were with us in spirit. We are thankful for the time we had with them and look forward to the years to come.

Meine liebe Sharon,

Sharon, I love your Thanksgiving thoughts. For me… What a joyous day with our family. I found myself really taking in the day… Hours at the table talking, laughing, eating and drinking all the while being more aware than ever, that our little boys are men now. I am thankful for their happiness and health and that they are building lives of meaning. I am grateful for the memories of each Thanksgiving and this year was no exception. xo
