the April tour – day 3

by Sharon Santoni
[blank]Day 3 of the April brocante tour got off to a good start as we hit a country farmers market, shopping list in hand!    My guests were delighted to see crème fraîche served by the ladle; fresh seafood;  ready roasted chickens and home baked cakes, alongside goats cheese and fresh herbs and vegetables.[blank]

[blank]Once our food was bought, I stopped off at a flower stall and bought some beautful peonies to take to our lunch.[blank]
[blank] We arrived (almost) on time for our cuisine lesson and lunch.   A most delicious moment was spent in the company of Franck Schmitt, who as well as being a great cook, a brilliant food photographer, jounalist and stylist, is also author of very many cook books,
Franck welcomed us into his family kitchen to show us how to prepare a delicious meal that we later devoured!
(And if this décor looks familiar to some of you, that would be because Franck is husband to the gorgeous Cécile already featured on these pages!)[blank]

[blank]Franck had all the ingredients ready and waiting, plus the goodies we brought in from the market.[blank]

[blank]He showed us how to prepare a delicious starter of two little ‘verrines’ or glasses containing in one, zucchini lightly cooked in olive oil and flambéd in pastis, and in the other carrots in honey and cumin … YUM!![blank]
[blank]

[blank]Following this we helped him put together a goats cheese tart, topped with almonds and pimento flavoured rock salt[blank]

[blank]and finally we learnt the secrets behind the wonderful little melting chocolate cakes that are served in the shop and tea salon run by Franck and his wife Cécile.[blank]

[blank] Once lunch was done we head off in search of more flea market treasure and were not disappointed.[blank]

[blank]
[blank]
[blank]And now my friends I leave you to catch up with some much needed sleep before setting off tomorrow on the last day of the brocante tour.    If you like these pictures and want to join in with the September group tour, then just drop me  a line!
[blank]Thank you for reading![blank]

I will arrive in the southwest next Saturday And beginning Monday I will begin my search of the local Brocantes for chairs like those in your photo! Exactly what the parlor needs.

What a fun day. I want to learn how to make crème fraîche and delicious simple meals, and then you showed us the peonies, oh my goodness.

How are your guests shipping home their loot?
