running away to Paris – a tale by my friend Martha

by Sharon Santoni
[blank]Have you every dreamt of packing up your life and making your way to Paris?  Have you wondered what it would be like to fall in love with a tall, handsome Frenchman?   Have you sighed at the thought of living in a pretty French house and filling it with beautiful antique furniture, and cooking delicious meals in your country kitchen? …..[blank]
[blank]I have a very dear friend called Martha who did just that.  She used to live down the valley from me, and we spent a lot of time together doing everyday things that girlfriends enjoy.
[blank]
[blank]She lived in the sweetest house in the centre of the village.  Behind her blue shutters she created a charming home for her husband and daughters; her garden was beautiful; her cooking divine …..  we always had a lot to chat about![blank]
[blank]Martha moved back to the States a few years ago, but we have stayed in touch.  It wasn’t easy for her to leave France and start over.  She and her family recreated a new life for themselves and are living happy and successfully, but she has always felt nostalgic for her life here.[blank]
[blank]Today I am proud to tell you that she has published her story for Kindle.  She has a lovely easy to read style of writing that whisks me back to her kitchen table, chatting over a cup of tea.
It is  a brave move to publish a memoir.  One’s own life story.  Not only do you reveal your writing skills to the public, but also your life!  I admire her immensely for the candid and unpretentious way in which she has achieved this.[blank]
[blank]I enjoyed the book so much that I wanted to share it with you too.  She tells it like it is, just the way a good friend would.  Through her story you feel the thrills but also the difficulties in running away to a new life in a foreign country.[blank]
[blank]Of course I won’t tell you the whole story, but let me say that this is a tale of love and delectation.  The tale of a young woman working out how to live her dream, and how to react when that dream takes some unexpected turns.[blank]
[blank]If you would like to download Martha’s book, just click here ….. then find yourself a comfy chair, make a cup of tea, or pour a glass of wine, and let yourself get lost in her charming and touching tale.[blank]

I agree it is brave of your friend. Just writing my silly little blog sometimes makes me nervous. The flowers and pictures above are so enjoyable and start the morning off right.

Lovely post. Look forward to reading Martha's story. A friend returned to the States after 7-years or so and couldn't stop crying from longing for her beloved France and had to return!

I'm curious what you think about Hollande. He makes me miss President Bling Bling and especially Carla.

You make me want to read the book but I don't have a e-reader! Is there any chance that it will be published in paper book form?

As a romantic, I'm terribly intrigued! Don't have a reader device, and am wondering why she returned to the US? Hoping she came back with her wonderful tall French man………Oh dear! Perhaps, oh dear! So goes intense romantic notions.

Cette maison et ce jardin sont absolument adorable. Matha a beaucoup de gout.
Mais ce n'est pas une petite maison, juste une maison de taille normale pour une famille de 4 personnes en France

No E-reader needed–at Amazon it is possible to read a book on your computer browser "in the cloud"…an app that takes only seconds to download.

I am having no luck finding Faith Over Reason, neither through your post nor directly through Amazon. Do you have a suggestion where I am going wrong? Looks like others have been able to find it. Thanks.

Oh,I loved reading your post about your dear friend, Martha Alberti. We became pen pals for a while during her search for a great place to live in the US. I was writing an arts and history newspaper column called The Public Garden and she wrote to me there, and we corresponded and I shared her thoughts with our readers. I could tell she was a great writer back then (2001?) and am thrilled to hear about her book, which I cannot find to download on Amazon. I did just send her an email so we could reconnect; she has been trying to find me and just did through a series of connections. Please tell her that Laura Pope said hello and to please contact me at popelaura2003@yahoo.com. Best Regards, Laura

I enjoyed reading about your girlfriends. I too have had trouble finding the book “Faith over reason”. On Amazon or anywhere. Would love to know how to buy it. Apparently other readers have been able to get it and love it. That truly sounds like my kind of book.
