Oh my goodness! you would not believe what the sky has thrown at us in Normandy this week. Tremendous storms each evening and night, with a monumental hail storm on Thursday evening that hacked its way through all my new plants like a demented ninja! ( not that I am really an authority on ninjas …). My poor garden will take a while to recover.
So when I saw a man selling these beautiful dahlias and peonies from his garden at a fair this morning, I bought the lot!
Besides the blooms I bought a garden bench, a sweet little painted table and a tall square table …
then I added a teapot, a couple of plates, a white tureen (I know, I know….please don’t tell my family I bought another tureen!) ,
a sweet enamel soap station and,
(and this is with a big drum roll please…)
a very special saddle, made by one of the top French saddlers, it came with a basket load of leathers and various tack, I’ll spend this afternoon cleaning and oiling it before maybe trying it out in the forest this evening – lucky me!
happy days!
What I didn’t buy were the huge zinc buckets, nor the wagon wheels, nor the mix of pretty plates
nor even the totally amazing collection of tiny lead soldiers, complete with an old fashioned card backdrop … maybe that’s something I’ll regret one day, who knows …
During the month of August my on-line store will be closed.

A lovely haul. So sorry your garden took a beating. Today's loot accumulation maybe offsets that loss. Really, a great collection of goodies today.
Peonies, still? Our season is so short. Unusually cold and wet in Chicago-area this summer. Lush garden, fewer blooms. Still, lovely.
So beautiful! Amazing… Hugs
What a beautiful saddle. Hope you enjoy using it! Thank you for your beautiful blog. I hope to visit one of your brocante tours next year.
You found real treasures including the peonies and saddle; I would have been tempted to buy the lead soldiers.
Wow, you got some great stuff and left a bunch of great stuff for someone else too! Which I were there, I see a few things I'd like myself! Enjoy your saddle!
Oh my goodness those peonies are AMAZING!!!!!! Love the rustic charm of your goodies. Thank you for sharing!
I hope the weather will be better next week. I love all those pictures you have published.
Hugs

I cannot believe this man and his peonies. I have been buying from him at fairs in the region since May! He tells me he has about 30 peony plants and about 300 dahlias !! Just love buying fresh flowers from a garden!

🙂
I can't wait to try the saddle. It is incredibly soft and supple

I lingered for a while over the soldiers, not for me but for a family member who likes that sort of thing.
They are very small indeed and beautifully painted
xx
you can never bring it all home Lisa!
we like rustic here 🙂 and we love peonies!
well Marina, it certainly can't be worse!

We had a hail storm once that made everything look like it had been put through a paper shredder! A month later everything was more beautiful than before. So… there's always hope. Btw, nice loot!
I whish I was there…

That's a charming teapot, and I worry that there won't be any white tureens left by the time I get to brocanting. Also, I now have serious saddle envy.
Hello Sharon,
Your storm hit us here in Kent on Saturday…..and my garden too took a battering! At least it gave me an evening off the extensive watering and hopefully the lawns will green up now! Lovely look shoot…..Peonies still, how lovely!
Have a great week,
Sophia
thank you Nancy, that makes me feel more optimistic 🙂
🙂
This was such a lovely collection to purchase. I might have bought the soldiers though. Beautiful flowers.
Lucky you coming across the saddle. Beautiful leather. Oh, I think you should have acquired those soldiers. You don't see those very often.
Your findings were a nice compensation for what the storm has done in your garden.
All beautiful and you have chosen as always the best of it. I wish you that a lot of sun come out again very soon and can heal your flowers and plants.
The crockery look nice! Specially the teapot. The most eye catching things are the soldiers.
The first thing my eye settled on was the saddle. Great find! It always makes me a little sad, because you know no one would give it up on purpose; there must be a story behind it. I am so glad it found a good home.
An old man came into the office and started talking about his roses. He could hardly concentrate on his business for talking about his gardening. He said the storm brings nitrogen into your roses. He said you can water them all you want, but nothing takes the place of a storm. (I'm not sure if he knew what he was talking about or maybe he was just senile, but it made sense to me.)
Thats the sweetest little teapot! You have a really good eye for stuff!
What a lovely day you had! How was the saddle?? What a great find!
Lately, I am not interested in treasure hunts, spending the last few weeks emptying out my father-in-laws house out. Many treasures but no place to hold them.

Very beautiful stuff and photos. Love de peonies!! Evelyne
What treasures you found…every single thing! The dark plum dahlias are stunning, the china is lovely, and the saddle is absolutely beautiful. Is the garden bench as comfortable as it looks? If you can, post a photograph of the saddle and tack on your horse! Thank you for the exciting post! With every hope that the effects of the storm end up invigorating your garden, Leslie
