One of the reasons I love this part of France so much is for its beautiful and traditional properties, it’s French country architecture.
Stone walls, white shutters, slate roofs, mature trees, green valleys … all things that work well for me.
A good friend recently asked me to ‘scout’ for him, with a view to buying a holiday home in North West France, his checklist read as follows:
~ old – 18th or 19th century should do it – check
~ french – ahem! check!
~ big enough to sleep 10 – check (can I be invited!)
~ beautiful grounds, but not too manicured – check
~ outbuildings to play with
~ in the middle of the countryside – easy!
he hasn’t chosen yet, but in the meantime, these are some of my favourites, hope you enjoy.
Which of these homes is your favourite example of French country architecture?

Each is totally drool worthy, that would be a hard decision with so many to choose from. Thanks for a dose of dreams….

Seriously – I would take anyone of these and enjoy every moment of gently manicuring the house and property over time. Beautiful.
Wow, I think it would be tough to choose. I would definitely have a hard time picking one. How wonderful to buy a vacation property in this lovely party of the world! You live in a beautiful place, Sharon. XO
ah beatiful
These are all amazing. Such fabulous buildings and the architecture is stunning. I would love for you to link up to Inspire Me this afternoon. Party goes live at 2:30 PT. http://www.astrollthrulife.net Hope to see you there. Hugs, Marty
While I love a good mas, I have to admit that these homes are just perfection. *le sigh*
Thank you for showing us these beautiful properties 🙂
Big tick for all of them… 🙂 xv
Each one is tempting and your friend can choose from a wealth of jewels.
Hi Sharon I love the home in picture no. 1, but then I love all of them. Thank you for sharing these dreamy properties. Regards Esther from Sydney.
The second from the bottom with the marquise over the front door. Simply too lovely.
Absolutely beautiful!! I especially love how the buildings seem to glow in the sunlight. They look so warm and welcoming. 🙂
Any of these homes would make me *very* happy! Love the architecture in your area of France, so very different than in the Midi Pyrenees.

All are exquisite – a far cry from our guard house in north eastern France! Warm regards
Stunning! I wonder how they look inside? How fun choosing between two or four fireplaces, steps up to the front door or not, high or low maintenance gardens etc. I love the smaller houses but the last house pictured would make a lovely business venture. B & B and Wedding business.
All gorgeous! The first five especially, I love. Depending on your chequebook, any would be fabulous! Yours is none too shabby either! What a picturesque spot you live in. A charmed existence you live, never-the-less it's busy! Dogs, organising brocante tours, kids, husband, guest writing for magazines, re-covering naked armchairs etc!
Cheers,
Deborah from Melbourne, Australia

Bonjour Madame! I'll take anyone of these country homes for their subdued elegance and comfortable style. BONNE JOURNÉE! Anita
I am seriously in love with all those homes! Maybe in my next life I will have the chance to live in one of those. Maybe coming back as a "French Poodle" and live the pampered life!

I am very happy because next year we will travel, for the first time, to Paris and London. It is a dream!
Would you please inform us which is the better month to go, May or June? I mean, good weather, not
cold, not very warm, just nice to walk around the cities?
We are from Brazil. Thank you very much!
Sandra
You really do have my favorite styles of architecture covered! Cettes maisons sont superbes!! I dream of living there as well. Thanks for sharing 🙂
Lovely. Reminds me of one of my trips to France and a stay in the Loire Valley. So beautiful!
I like the first two—no need to over do it. Send anyone you can’t fit to the local B&B!
