half a million times …. merci!

by Sharon Santoni

walking in the forest with dogs

Words fail me today,  I am not sure where to start saying thank you to everyone who has ever ‘liked’ the My French Country Home facebook page.

Today we received our 500,000 th like!

I have never bought a like, and I have never asked for a like and yet somehow half a million people have found my page.

Yesterday, as I welcomed my guests to my brocante tour, I reflected upon all the amazing experiences and encounters that this little blog has brought my way.

Your responses on facebook are a part of that, and I am truly humbled and grateful for your support and encouragement.

So because I am left speechless,-ish, I am letting my pictures do the talking, and bringing you a little video vignette below.

I wanted to show you the behind the scenes of taking pictures for the blog.  My flower bouquets are among the most popular pictures on the facebook page, so I thought you may like to see one come together.

It’s just for fun, just to say ‘merci’ ….. I hope it makes you smile.

Sharon, this is tres creative! I loved the accompanying music. Thank you for showing us the behind-the-scenes of your photos. I know you always said you were gathering the flowers and putting all the vases/arrangements together; but, I had wondered if you really had a team of a dozen assisting you with everything. I mean where do you store everything?? I remember being blown away by your table settings the first time I visited your site.

Well, it was so fun to see you in front of the camera, along with the dogs. 🙂 You have a wonderful blog and facebook page! Congratulations on reaching 500,000. Next stop 1 million!

I loved following you through the wooded foot path. I felt like I was walking along my own footpath opposite my home. I only wish my flowers arrangements looked like yours. I do try but maybe I ought to be a bit more adventurous and go bold. fabulous post which will certainly bring more ‘Likes’

Dear Sharon,

Well, all quite-deserved congratulations aside?……..you should know this poem (a subtly beautiful one, I think) by Robert Frost. I hope it adequately conveys the great pleasure your work has brought to many, many folks whom, as you say, you’ve never actually met in-person.

Admiringly,
David Terry (read below)

The Silken Tent

She is as in a field a silken tent
At midday when the sunny summer breeze
Has dried the dew and all its ropes relent,
So that in guys it gently sways at ease,
And its supporting central cedar pole,
That is its pinnacle to heavenward
And signifies the sureness of the soul,
Seems to owe naught to any single cord,
But strictly held by none, is loosely bound
By countless silken ties of love and thought
To every thing on earth the compass round,
And only by one’s going slightly taut
In the capriciousness of summer air
Is of the slightest bondage made aware.

Hi David, thank you so much for this, I had never read this poem, it is just beautiful.

Funnily enough I read it out loud to Elizabeth, La Contessa, in the middle of Normandy today!

Yes…Heather…. Elizabeth is THERE, even as I pound-out this message on on My Engine of Truth….

Elizabeth, bless her heart, also seems to have written a brithday card to my now 77 year old mother in East Tennessee (whose birthday was this past Monday).

I am a big Fan of La Contessa…….as you might guess. So is my mother now….

OOOOH!!!! (adopting La Contessa’s epistolary style….)….

I just telephoned my now 77 year old mother (actually, I’ve talked with her every day for decades, since I work at home and can easily do so…plus, I think she’s funny, and I happen to like my parents).

She was THRILLED to receive her card from Elizabeth. she just read it to me.

thank you, Elizabeth…..quite sincerely. My mother was born and rasied (in an orphanage, actually) in East Tennessee, and she’s rarely left since then. She obviously thinks that getting a card from you was the Height of Glamour…..and, as I just told her, rightly so.

I also told her that, all kidding aside, you were a good soul.

Thank you,

David Terry

Hi Sharon, Design and Creativity have been my career for many years. Rarely have I encountered the talent you display bringing natures beauty and architecture together in such a beautiful way. Your video was so creative and cleaver. It captured all of what you are and share with many. I admire that you have found what I would only wish to achieve. I am not at all surprised at how many people cannot wait to see what your next posts will be. We all can see the beauty of Europe through your eyes. I can truly attest that what you do appears to be easy but I know that to achieve your final picture it is a lot of work and rework to be sure you are happy with what your post will be. Hoping one day I might be able to first hand see some of the beautiful sites you have shared. The one thing that saddens me is that an ocean separates us because I would so much love to meet you and share your knowledge and enjoy your company. It is very rare to find friends to share similar work and interests with the same passion. Please continue to make so many people happy everyday! Mary Ellen
