If you are dreaming of owning your own French country home, not too far from Paris, yet really in the countryside then take a look at this charming cottage.
This 18th century farmhouse currently belongs to some friends of mine who are antique dealers, and who have renovated the house very carefully over the past few years. It is about 90 minutes west of Paris by car, and lies at the edge of a small forest.
I have actually stayed here myself, a while ago while antique shopping with a friend. This french country cottage is ideally situated for visiting local brocante fairs that take place each month, as well as the many local dealers.
From the house it’s nice to walk up a path to the forest, and the garden is just big enough to enjoy eating outside without feeling compelled to spend whole weekends gardening.
Inside there are four bedrooms and three bathrooms. The kitchen is functional and the main living space very light and spacious. Recently a small modern space was created in the garden as an artists studio but this can be easily removed by crane if the new owners prefer to get back to the original character of the house.

I would love more information about this. My husband and I are considering becoming ex-pats at this point. I have been searching in the Aquitaine and down near Pau, but this cottage looks delightful and is just my style, although it may not have as much land as we would like from your description. I will research la Perche a little more, but if you could kindly send me more information that would be wonderful!

What a lovely renovation! So many of these old cottages have been ruined with hideous “modernization” using Pergo, colorful IKEA kitchens and glass block walls in the bathroom. Not that any of the aforementioned products are bad. They just do not belong in a beautiful, old stone cottage, IMO.
