Recently, I had the pleasure of working with one of my favorite French brands – Christofle. They approached me to be a part of their new series, “My Christofle Table,” and – as a long-term fan – I was more than happy to oblige. Their flatware was on our wedding list many many (many, many) moons ago, and their vintage pieces are always something I look out for when I’m at antique fairs.
They asked me to pick some favourite items from their collection and create a tablescape as if I were entertaining friends. This was easy, because that is exactly what I did! We had friends over for a Sunday lunch, and it was the perfect opportunity to create a lay a summery table with flowers and the gorgeous goods from Christofle.
Laying tables definitely seems to be a big part of our life here. Taking the time to sit down to eat, whether we are two, six or sixteen is simply the way things happen. My husband and I both work from home, and we always pause midday to sit down together, even its just for a salad. When we invite guests, sometimes the tables are fancy and sometimes the beauty is in the simplicity. A time to share, to connect and to recharge our batteries.

Gorgeous! We too, being retired, sit down for lunch and dinner together almost every day. We sit out at the tables on the decks as often as we can, chat….relax….enjoy our food and coffee. Our table doesn’t look as beautiful but I do put the placemats and napkins on. Thanks for your beautiful photos and inspiration.
Having family and friends in for a meal or drinks or tea is a big part of our life here on the coast of Maine, USA. This time of year we gather outside on the terrace, and even then I enjoy laying a pretty table and using lovely things from my stash! In winter we’re inside in front of the dining room fireplace with a delicious stew or roast. The first cold snap,is the signal to make fish chowder, a Maine staple. Thanks so much for your blog, Sharon. I’ve enjoyed it for nearly its whole life and look forward to the special boxes when they are due. Soon again since I know you e shipped the August box! There is always something I keep for myself, many things actually, and I use much of the rest for gifts. Friends always ask, “where did you find that?” My secret!
Beautiful! Can you provide a link to a French site/etiquette book that shows how and why the French lay their table? It appears to be a little different than English/American. I do French Colonial reenacting and in the 18thC the handles were upside down.
I love the colors of your table but the crystal is what catches my eye, Graphik..my birthday is next Friday and my French friend Estelle is planning a dinner party, for 4…we don’t gather in groups. I know my dinner will be elegant and out of this world and dessert, her specialty, will leave me breathless and full till the following week, lol

Lunch is our main course and we really celebrate this time here in Southern Spain as a sit-down-meal on our terrace. However we are 2 of us I decorate the table depending on the meal and as the whim takes me. Summertime deco is always colorful and jolly as
against winter deco.
