Time for our august box and a giveaway!! It finally feels like summer is here and I am happy to share with you all our August Box theme and a giveaway! This collection will ship in August and is curated around the theme of Summer in France – Été en France.
For me the word summer evokes warmth, long evenings, dinners with friends and most importantly family time. It is the moment in the year when we are fortunate to have all the family with us for a week or two or three, and with them a trail of friends, and dogs, and music and happy meals together. And of course now that we have our first grandchild, that family holiday is even more important.
It also means the moment of the year when we pretty much live outdoors. Spending time in the garden, picking from the potager, eating all our meals on the terrace or in the shade of a tree.
When putting together the August edition of our MFCH Subscription box, I curated a collection of items that I love to use. Somethings for you, some for your home, and some to share. As always I’m very excited about this new collection and I hope you love it too.

Such a lovely theme for this season’s box! My first time in France was a trip to Paris for my husband and my first anniversary. I was a summer bride. i remember our summers in france when we lived there; every meal eaten outdoors, naps under a mirabelle plum tree to the sound of woodpeckers and cuckoos in the trees, candles lit outside in the balmy evenings…bliss.

I have always been intrigued by this; winning a lovely box would be such a pleasure!
Bonjour! I don’t do social media – unless you count email – and I don’t have much luck wining things 🙁 but I can’t help throwing my beret in the ring for a chance to win your August box. August was often a time we went over to France – after moving back to the US in 2012 – and an opportunity to reconnect with friends, my husband’s (French) family and a quiet Paris thanks to the tradition of ‘fermetures annuelles.’ This year is a little different – my husband is going solo to visit a cousin ailing from cancer. I have dogs and yes – a garden – to look after back home in Florida. Plus I really prefer the fall, when life is buzzing again in the French capital. (And I get a chance to were my boots and sweaters!)
But whether in France or in the US we also enjoy basically living outside – eating, playing (with dogs) gardening, reading. Our little imported marble lunch table is not as picturesque, or as big, as the one pictured in the magazine, but I do try for fresh cut flowers, even a few sprigs of dainty cherry tomatoes will sometimes have to do the job.
I miss France and would so love to receive an August box for inspiration and consolation for the summer season!

J’y ai goute du riz noir chinois pour la premiere fois, et on nous a servi deux desserts succulents: un gateau a la rhubarbe et un gateau fait avec une farine d’amande, du chocolat noir francais, 5 blancs d’oeuf. Quel delice – – autant pour les plats que pour la conversation! Voila les actualites du Cercle Francais de Skagit Valley.

Am wondering if those peonies have any special meaning for you? They make me think of my mom and growing up in the Midwest in the US. We had several large plants in our yard. My favorite had huge white flowers with a few red petals right in the center. I once counted the number of petals on one flower…there were hundreds! After I moved to North Carolina and saw the price of them at flower markets I was shocked? So interesting the emotional connections we have to flowers! Thank you for an opportunity to win the box!

August box the this year sounds so tempting, Sharon. Tomato tart from MFCH archive is a favourite to serve for al fresco meal, with a. salad on the side, along the glass of cremant.
Yesterday I gave my first barbecue in years and also my first one on my lawn in front of Penobscot Bay here in Owls Head, Maine. We sat under a white tent and people were thrilled to be out socializing again. All my purple lupines and blue balloon flowers and white roses are in bloom, next come my beautiful peonies. My recollections of France are of a long summer holiday spent with my entire family celebrating my parents’ Silver Wedding Anniversary. We travelled from Newhaven to Dieppe with our Peugeot convertible and drove through many towns and quaint villages to La Cote d’Azur. It was my most memorable holiday ever and still makes me smile when I recall the wonderful rich experience all those years ago in 1960!

Ahh Summer… fresh peaches, strawberries, cherries, blueberries, corn, and tomatoes. It is a time to be with family and friends, long walks, and fireflies.
