mon bouquet du jour

by Sharon Santoni
Would you be shocked if I told you that I consider my neighbour’s property as my cutting garden?!  Don’t worry, I don’t tie Madame up and gag her while I raid her flower beds,  no, the house is empty and has been for years now.
This happens a lot in France, inheritance laws and taxes can be so complicated that houses are often left untended for long periods of time before the paperwork is sorted.
Madame S was a good neighbour to us, and I like to think that we helped her out too.  She often invited me to pick flowers or fruit from her garden and orchard, she hated any waste.  So today when I climb the wall and put together a bouquet for the house,  or bring back baskets of cherries, I always think of her.
I remember the children helping feed her rabbits,  how she showed me the best way to grow mange tout peas.  And sometimes, to say thank you, I return with gardening tools and prune or weed a little.

Florist foam or chicken wire, either way the arrangement is gorgeeous! So glad your family cleaned house for you. My son and granddaughters are visiting us and the house is upside down. I'm trying to enjoy it since I know I will miss them when they are gone.

Hope you get a moment to prop your feet up to relax.

Using the chicken wire is a novel idea! I have to remember this. The tureen and flowers are just lovely, Sharon!

Tres beautiful bouquet!
Your flowers will probably last even longer with just the chicken wire and water. Did you put a drop of bleach in the water? That will help keep the bacteria down and a longer life for the flowers.

Your gardens must be full of stunning beauty!

Heavenly! I can smell the roses from here. Your arrangement is lovey and I love that what tureen. And that fluffy Polka rose — so sweet. It looks like its dancing in a big ruffled skirt.

Your arrangement is STUNNING!!! It looks like a painting by an old Dutch master. I'm slowly but surely uncovering forgotten flowers in my garden as I weed and prune and weed some more. (photos of some progress are on my blog.) Maybe by the end of summer, I'll be able to make a lovely arrangement myself!

Sharon ~ Yes, this IS a Dutch masterpiece!! LOVE IT!!! Must have been so glorious to come home to your lovely abode and see that your family had tidied and cleaned so that you could be on your way to more adventures!! How sweet they are!! The work you do at those fairs is arduous and you must need a refresher for sure! ;}
Hope you are enjoying some lovely late Spring weather…..we are here in the Mid-Atlantic in the mid 70's~quite a change from what we have had 100's.
Many warm wishes to you!!!
