lavender from my garden

by Sharon Santoni

The summer has been warm, the spring was dry and the lavender is ready to cut earlier than normal.  It’s not a quick job, cutting back the plants, drying the lavender then separating the grains from the branches, but oh boy!  it’s worth it.

Yesterday my first batch was ready to put into sachets.  I used pieces of old linen, filled with fresh lavender and decorated with a simple bow.  A timeless pleasure.

We adore lavender and wish we could grow it here. All of our attempts have failed so far. We can almost smell your lavender now!

You are very lucky Sharon with your lavender.
Ours is brown and black because of the drought this year and very early flowering. I cut already some in late June will you believe. Left a good amount for our guests, but now they lost there beautiful color, not the scent fortunately. Normally I cut my Lavender not before end of August or even September.
Really, a funny year!
Best wishes for a sunny weekend.k

Look at you. Lovely hand-made lavender sachets made with your own lavender! Martha Stewart has nothing on you, girl! 😉 Beautiful pictures. I can smell it all the way here, in the Pacific Northwest! Veronique aka French Girl in Seattle

What a great harvest! And your sachets are adorable. Lavender always reminds me of my friend Barbara, who fills her house with the scent and it's always so peaceful and fresh there.

Love it. I am attempting to harvest my lavender- I purchased some ready made sachets when I was in Provance two years ago. They still have a little smell left.

Thank you for this post. This morning in Texas we are having our first rain in a long, long time. My lavendar plants (except for the three in pots by the backdoor) are lost, cooked in the heat and drought. You have reminded me lavender is worth the effort, there is nothing like it. Time for me to start preparing for new plants. Where there is life, there is hope… cJoy

Watched a movie based in Italy, they kept lavender in the window sills to keep the scorpions out? Scorpions in Italy surprised me.

Love the french clock with both the numbers and the numerals on. If I had something like that I might be able to get my children to figure out roman numerals! The hands look brilliant too, quite jealous of your acquisition there =)
