gibson goes on holiday

by Sharon Santoni

If Gibson is looking blue, it’s because he is home after his holiday where he had such a good time it is hard to re-adjust! 🙂

We did not take Gibson with us to Nice, even though Ghetto would have loved to see him.  Gibson had his own agenda …. Our very kind friends P and D invited Gibson to stay and join in the  action packed week planned for their grandchildren and thought that Gibson may like to join in.

Amongst the activities planned for the week were learning to use a compass, how to tie a good knot, how to light a campfire when you haven’t any matches and how to cook sausages.  The sort of French country survival course that any self respecting Golden Retriever would simply love.
The evening before we left, Gibson packed his new cushion, his lead and collar and an unreasonable quantity of tennis balls.

What can I say?  Gibson arrived a day after the granchildren so unfortunately missed the lesson on knot tying and the practice run with the compass around the swimming pool, but I am told that despite this lack of preparation he was with the winning team on the orienteering course and also selflessly volunteered to test the sausages, in case they weren’t cooked properly.
Gibson asked me to pass on his thanks for the lovely week he had; that he adored the numerous walks each day!  and to repeat that if ever they need another sausage tester that he’s their dog.

He’s not really as miserable as he looks on these pictures, but it’s raining hard here and he’s wondering why we haven’t been for a walk this afternoon.

Gibson also asked me to show you that his new cushion is an incredibly fashionable combination of grain sack and vintage ticking ….. Don’t ever tell me it’s a dog’s life.

He might have been having fun, but it looks like he was dreaming of home.
He's a cutie.

Ah, a dog's life is measured in these little things.

It looks as though he needs a vacation from his vacation! And it truly is a dog's or cat's life! My two cats asked me to keep the noise down this morning!

Gibson is very sad he is not going, but putting on a brave front I'm sure of it.

I work at a home fashion store in Vancouver BC, people spend a fortune on their pets. I say market those dogs beds, with or without stuffing for cost effective shipping. People could stuff it themselves then just zip it closed.

Gibson is such a handsome boy. He looks as if he is exhausted from his journey and would like to stay home for awhile now.

Oh, I smiled upon seeing the title of this! Of COURSE Gibson has such a cool dog bed! But I really agree with Shelagh's idea–there is money to be made there for sure. And Gibson looks plum worn out–I can only imagine the none stopedness of attention that he received from those grandkids. 😉

I'm glad that you explain his look of consternation – I just love his big puppy eyes. And his bed is certainly the most chic thing I have ever seen. I'm sure Gibson is so happy to have you home! Cheers, Cynthia

He grew up so fast. Gibson is such a beautiful dog, I would LOVE to baby sit for him.

I am sure he had a good time on his holiday. Too bad they didn't take pictures of that because he sure looks unhappy in these pictures.

beautiful dog.. he really looks so lonely, but I suppose it's just for show… every attention is a good attention in a dog's life…

Gibson, You are one handsome guy. We have Bryn (a yellow lab) and Dolly (a black lab) who would love to be friends even if it is long distance. Hubby thinks we should get a golden and a chocolate lab and have a rainbow…..gulp.

Thank you for these pictures and story. Seeing that dog bed gives me an idea about what to make for my Daisy (our 4 year old golden retriever) to replace her very loved (and worn out) current bed.
I so enjoy your blog–thank you from Victoria BC Canada

I think he is 50% exhausted from all the fun he had and 50% having vacation let-down .. when you are back home and everything is the same again 🙂
I love that dog bed.
Someday maybe there will be another dog in our lives and we can get something like that.

J'adore your lovely dog! I have a Maltese (before I had a newfoundland) and is more simple thake it with us … but it's a good idea that a dog can have its holidays.
Great post!
