It all looks straight out of a dream, a twilight dream that is. How very 'pweety' the roses are, and Gibson is a natural! 🙂

Oh, Sharon…..thank you, thank you, thank you…your posting was just what I needed this particular morning.

As you know, Herve and I bought the 220 year old "Dream House" (a cliche, but appropriate here). Over the past week, I've been totally submerged in the riptide of closing down our two houses in Durham and watching the contents of both (plus ALL the stuff from the garden, patios, etcetera) come crashing up into this house. It's been, for at least four entire days and nights, like witnessing a massive tsunami of goods and chattel, not to mention plain-old junk from closets and pantries I hadn't organized in ten years.

Quite frankly (and at the risk of lowering the tone of your elegant blog)?….my real estate agent (a very smart, dauntingly practical 50-something woman)told me about a week ago "Just get READY for it….half of what you own will be out in the yard, and the other half will be piled up inside the house. And it's all going to suddenly look like shit and smell like dog pee."

She was right. I got up two hours ago (the first "real" morning in this old house, when I don't have to keep driving back and forth to supervise movers, etcetera), and I dispiritedly realized that I have no idea how to even START putting things in order. Your posting just made me stop and remember why I bought this house; among many other attractions, there's a neglected, ancient, large rose garden…..everywhere you poke around in the acre-sized back garden, there are plants and shrubs to be nursed back to health. All the elderly neighbors and the guidebooks say that this house was, for a hundred or so years until the 1990's (when it was turned into a facny bed&breakfast;, "famous" for its gardens.

your posting just spurred me to spend half an hour outside in the gardens, reminding myself that I have years (one assumes) to unpack and organize inside the house. I just made a promise to myself that I'll do what I can do as/when I can do it…..and, when the task is seeming overwhelming, I can simply step out my back door and appreciate all these ancient roses. They just clamber everywhere here, growing up into trees, poking through fences…..it's quite lovely, in a distinctly haphazard, "grey gardens"state of horticultural deshabille…..

I think your first picture could be on a calendar – I think it is so cozy .. and I can smell those sweet roses.

Stunning. Love the gate photo. The scent in your garden must be incredible at the moment with so many roses in bloom. I much prefer the effect lower light level have in photography as the sun does seem to bleach at lot of colour out.
