guess what! my loot shoot includes a ……!

by Sharon Santoni

Guess what I got today?   A bed!!  Did I need another bed?  No, absolutely not, but oh dear, I just love these old upholstered beds with the rounded ends and fancy trim.

SO over the next couple of weeks,  – in between welcoming our guests, weeding the garden, writing the blog and caring for Quick’s fractured leg – I guess I shall have some fun renovating this baby.

Do you remember the last time I upholstered a French bed, I even took photos in the garden before setting it up in our guest cottage.

I think I’ll use similar colours and fabric on this bed, but maybe without the monogram, I’ll have to hunt through my old sheets to see what would work best  ….  maybe I’ll need your advice!

Anyway,  let me show you the other pieces I found this morning.

I simply adore these old jam pots, they are incredibly thick and heavy.  I use them for my jam as you can see from the jar of home made strawberry conserve in the photo.   These jars never had lids.  To seal them I use paraffin wax, then a simply cellophone cover.  The jam seems to go pretty fast in this house, so that system works fine for us!

A lot of blue-grey-turquoise this morning … my eyes must have been especially tuned in to that colour.

I really love the books that I found, the creamy terrine, the blue grey footstool and the pretty transferware tureen.

Don’t you love this sweet little shell soap dish, nicely chipped and ready to hang on a wall.

I was really chuffed to find this tiny perpetual calendar, with its numbers and months on cards, ready to be slotted in and out of the box.

In fact I think I was pretty pleased with everything I bought today.  So I’ll just ….
show you …
a few …
more shots ….
and also tell you that I saw some of the prettiest houses this morning, I could have stopped the car twenty times or more .. but I didn’t, so you just get to see this ivy-covered home outside of which I parked my car  at 5.45 am!
I hope you are enjoying a good weekend.
Thank you so much for stopping by to see what I had to show you today – you are the best!!

PS  For those of you wondering about the “upside down basket” in front of the old bed in the first picture, it is actually a very old mobile bee hive, used for temporary relocation of bees nests!!

Amazing treasures!
I really like the bed as is. Would it be possible to clean it or is the fabric way too dirty and damaged? Anyway you choose to go, it will be lovely.

I'm so thrilled to be able to leave comments again. The option had vanished from my view (and web browser).

I scrolled down a little while the page was loading and thought the bed you already reupholstered was the one you were going to reupholster, and thought, No, no, no! Don't touch that one – it's perfect!! Oops. Anyway, you did an amazing job and I'd just like to take a nap in it now, right where it is in the photo. 🙂 Beautiful things!

OMG, wouldn't that bed's upholstery be beautiful in those darker shades Trish @ Trouvais is so famous for? Then it would be totally sleek. Me, I would paint the bedframe shiny black. That tureen is beautiful, a rare find I'm sure. Beautiful post, Sharon. xx's from HOT Texas….

Great loot shoot Sharon! I agree with the others, I would scoop up that bed as is. Have you thought of selling with one or two custom fabric choices or as is? A French toile would be fun..in any colour wave. The lines are so beautiful you couldn't go wrong either way. I remember the post on your guest cottage bed which is beautiful as well. The other item that got an 'ooohhh and aaahh' out of me, the mobile bee hive. Love that. If only!
I would love to get some buying tips from you Sharon, the markets in Vietnam will be a far cry from France, but the principle will be the same. It takes one savvy woman to pick up the items you do..I would love to follow in your footsteps..with an Asian flair.
Best wishes Sharon and many thanks for your comment… 'It's all I need..'

I love the fabric they used, but I see it is a bit damaged over there. By the way, a new floral pattern? What do you think?

What a lot of wonderful treasures – I particularly like that bed! On a slightly different note – would love to know how Quick is progressing? I know how difficult it can be, stabling an active horse! Hope he's doing well. Best Wishes to you and to him.

Love all your treasures, Sharon! Especially the creamy terrine and the bed. The fabric on the bed is lovely, to bad it has to be changed. I have similar bed in my home. It seems it was the most popular design a while back. My bed traveled from France to the States and then to Hong Kong. I love its carved flowers and curved foot board 😉 https://ilapko.com/irina/page/2/?s=bed
