The roses here are also in blume. We stick mostly to knockout roses because they tolerate the climate so well. It has been in the 90's and no rain for over two weeks, but the roses still keep bluming! Love the shades of red and pink there in Normandy. Worth a visit just to come and see them!
Beautiful. My roses never give such a magnificent display because their little buds are always devoured as soon as they appear by hungry possums.

SO pretty! It's a similar story here in England – my roses are out, but I can't sit out and enjoy them because of the dreadful rain!

Oh Sharon, how gorgeous. I can imagine that all of Normandy must smell of sweet roses with such an abundance of beautiful blooms. We had a horrible, record-setting rainfall last week, which took it's toll on our roses, but on a Sunday morning I'm seeing new buds and am looking forward to new, fresh flowers.

Here in my garden in the UK, the roses are the only thing flowering at the moment.
Either the rabbits have eaten everything that looks a bit juicy, or the driving rain has toppled everything else!

For a second, I thought the 7th photo down was from my garden! I found a scrawny little rose plant struggling to get light in my backyard when I bought my house. I replanted it along my garden fence and it's been flourishing for a long time now.

I missed seeing these roses bloom because I was in Ireland for 2 weeks. But I loved seeing these photos of yours.
I don't have this kind of antique-beauty/countryside where I live, so I feel when I gaze at your photos as if I'm in another world (where I'd rather be!). It's your eye, as many have spoken of before, but the color of aqua/turquoise seems like it's everywhere in the glimpses you give us of Normandy and its bounties, and nevermore gorgeous when a backdrop as a gate or shutter for the lush and prolific roses.

How wonderful is the rose. Such beauty and scent. At abandoned homes and cemetaries the roses grow beautifully without any care. Though they love to be fed, pruned and sprayed for blackspot and watered well, they can survive on total neglect and still thrive and put on a glorious show. Thank you for this beautiful post. The roses look wonderful – of course many of the most beautiful old shrub roses were produced by French breeders weren't they? And the Empress Josephine had that wonderful rose garden at La Malmaison – I wonder whether the rose garden still exists?
