a dreamy french riverside home for sale

by Sharon Santoni
If you have ever dreamt of finding a cute little house in Normandy, tucked away in deep green countryside, then this one is for you!
This charming property belongs to a friend who has to move for professional reasons.  It lays on the banks of the river that runs through our valley, just a couple of minutes from our village.
The house is quite small, which makes it ideal as a country pied-à-terre, or a weekend hideaway from a busy life in Paris.  Downstairs there is a large sitting room, a dining room and a small kitchen.

I love the beams and the beautiful floor tiles.   There are many windows to make the house bright and airy.

Below is the view from the dining room through and across the hallway into the sitting room.
The kitchen is small but very well put together and very functional.
Upstairs there are three bedrooms, this is the one I prefer, for the view of course, a long uninterrupted vista across fields.
The bathroom is also bright and airy with its big window that lets the sunshine pour in.

Sitting outside on a summer evening here, is quite wonderful.  The river running by and the birdsong is about the only sound to be heard.  Today there are some great trees and  a good basis in the garden, and with a little TLC it could become quite spectacular.
[white]
The house measures about 120 square meters or 1300 square feet, and the overall property around 7000 square meters, or 1.7 acres.  It was built in the 50’s, and a lot of old materials were used, which is why it has such an authentic air.  I particularly appreciate the old roof tiles, typical of traditional houses in Normandy.
And if by any chance you wish to keep  horses, there is already a paddock fenced off, with a couple of stables ready to go!

If you would like any further information on this property, you are very welcome to send me a mail, or if you prefer to contact the owner directly.
Happy dreaming!

What a heavenly property, a great sense of age without the problems of antique plumbing.

Oh Sharon, I wish! Not just room for us humans, but stable and grazing for my "old girl" as well. If I win the lottery this weekend, I'll be down to view – it's perfect!

I thought that this house was much older, but was confused by the ceiling heights and the large windows, so when you said it was built in the 1950's that made sense. It is a charming house. I like that the beams have been painted. I don;t care for dark beams overhead, it seems like bad feng shui and make me feel calustrophobic, but in this house with the painted beams it really opens it up.

When I asked my husband across the breakfast table if he wanted to buy a house in Normandy, he didn't say no… So I'm going to keep dreaming. I'd love to enjoy a summer evening with friends under that willow tree. Lovely! XO

I LOVE "I Dream Of"'s previous comment.

Just last night, Herve indicated that he was a little bit irritated at my having willy-nilly bought two big rocking chairs (may I emphasize that I think they're VERY LOVELY, REASONABLY PRICED, AND EXTREMELY USEFUL, PARTICULARLY WHEN HIS PARENTS ARE COMING IN A MONTH FOR 3 WHOLE DAMN WEEKS FROM FRANCE?????).

I had, indeed, told him about coming across them and had cited the price…..and, yes, I also found myself looking at my spouse and briskly concluded that little, almost-argument with "Well, you didn't say 'NO'!….."

Funny how almost all marriages end up being pretty much the same.

As for this house you've shown us? It is, indeed, lovely….and yet another previous commentator is obviously a smart and practical woman to have noted that the house (I wouldn't have considered that it wasn't very, very old) has all the advantages of
"recycled", antique elements with none of a genuinely old house's constant, lavatorial disasters and predicaments.

Well, thanks for this posting, which has just served(as I referred to your blog in an earlier comment) as My Daily Vitamin Pill.

Now, I feel sufficiently refreshed to begin tackling the patently grim business of going into the upstairs bedroom which was, when we moved here three weeks ago, designated as Herve's "office".

In reality, it's simply become the room into which we've tosssed everything that makes us think "What IS this?..and why do I have this?.. and is this even mine?..and why in the hell did I pay someone to bring it here????…."

I'm going to go through these thirty boxes of accumulated junk from our 2, separate, former houses' closets, and I'll dream of peaceful, green pastures and happy horses and riverside houses in Normandy….that just might get me throught the job awaiting me.

Level Best as Ever,

By gosh – matching 'pocket money' and I'd ask them to kindly just take some suitcases with their very private personal belongings: HOW cute is this house !!! (damn 'giant water puddle' as hindering reason – sigh sigh sigh!)

LG, Gerlinde

@ Francesca:
At least we've GOT water by now 😉 (wasn't much fun without it at all despite facing the right opposite now 😉 ! ) ! Don't worry, we're sitting in similar 'boats' at the time being – got washed out down here in Melbourne's surrounds recently; let's see how things will pan out for the next months. Chin up!

Sharon…it is 5:30 am, I am having one of those anxious moving day moments. Just have to say it completely dissolved while reading your post. I imagined you slipping away from the table to take a few pics. I am sure you were as delighted as we all are to view them. What a fantastic spot, a writers retreat for sure. I often think people should try selling houses around a story, like you have done here. All it takes is a few words to spark the imagination…you captured mine big time, I am already thinking of the direct flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Paris..to Normandy….to a wondeful French cottage…where dreams come true…. Thank you Sharon for taking my moving blues away.. xx

Love their love of a rustic garden. Jane Austen's favorite. Perfect landscape leaving the river & the home as the focal point.

And they are pet people too. Saw the bowls in the kitchen.

This would make a great engagement present. Better than a diamond ring. Told my guy but he just looked at me.

It’s very rural, yet very modern. I mean, the exterior, including the surroundings, perfectly portrays country living. However, when you peek inside, you will definitely see the touch of contemporary style in color combo and furniture used.

It really looks cute from the outside, and airy and light on the inside. 🙂 Has it been sold already? Based on the pictures, it looks like it’s already been decluttered, which is a good move if one’s selling a property. Anyway, part of selling one’s house is also preparing the needed documents, like the title insurance, deeds and purchase documents.
