a gentle palette for french family living

by Sharon Santoni
I love the gentle colour of old stone.  The façade of this house, is typical of old houses in our part of the world.  A colour that is never aggressive, that is happy to fit in and blend to its surroundings; a colour that is modest enough to serve as a backdrop to stronger hues,   yet has the character to take centre stage when required.

A couple of pictures from a family home in Normandy.  The way we like them.  No bling bling, no unrealistic styling, simple country living, relaxed and comfortable.

Wishing you all a comfortable, relaxed and family weekend!

Love the colour of that tablecloth ! Is that decking in the first photograph ? I definitely prefer stone or gravel terraces. More outside pictures would be great for inspiration.

It is just beautiful. I love all the things about it you mentioned. I wish you would add another photo giving us a bigger look at the rest of the architecture of the house.

I am in love. This is so wonderful. I am most comfortable in this type of color palate. I also love the windows on the house – just a little curve at the top to soften the hard edges.

Have a good weekend. M.

Beautiful home. I love the touches of purple. Nothing over the top, but just right.

My ideal. Organic to the surroundings and a whispered setting instead of a flashy shout.

I love old stone buildings and enjoy watching the tv programes where people buy them and renovate to live in. I love the way the French mix old furniture with new. It's a refreshing change from the way many of us have been brought up to decorate. I really like the black lamp in the second picture. I love the casual elegance in the rooms. I would love to live in a house like this.
Have a nice weekend.

Inspiring rooms. White and grey enhance the colours of natural materials – my preferred colour palette. Bon weekend

I love your description of the soft, calming exterior colors of this home. And I also love the gentle pops of matte black in the bathtub and lampshade – it adds a touch of something to each room without imposing on the soft greys, ivories, and whites that make ups such a wonderful color palette. Love your blog!
