a rainy day in paris and a bloggers lunch

by Sharon Santoni
The first of November arrived with buckets of rain, but it didn’t bother me one bit!
I had a lunch date with Vicki Archer, and I was looking forward to being tucked away in a little Parisian bistrot … good food, good company, good location:   all the things that work for me!
Vicki is as generous as her lovely blog, French Essence. We had a ton of things to talk about: the blogs of course, but also family life; our living in France; our dreams and wishes… girl talk …you can imagine how it went.
Vicki is in Paris for a few days, and has been delighting her instagram and blog followers with the photos she’s taken as she walks around the city.  The pictures I’m showing today are all hers;
  Enjoy.

Oh how I adore Vicki and I enjoy her blog, as I enjoy yours Sharon. Being a French teacher and a Francophile, what both of you bring to Blogland is special. Maybe one day when I go back to my beloved Provence, je frapperai à la porte du Petit Bijou and find Madame Archer there.

Have a lovely day in Normandy! Anita

I think this is one of the most powerful things about blogging. The friends you meet are the welcome surprise.

What a delightful way to spend a day in Paris….I love both your blogs.
It is raining here today and I plan to wear my rain boots and bright umbrella when I go out for a walk. Paris rain does sound a lot more romantic though….
Enjoy your weekend!

She does have a fabulous blog. Oh how I wish (for just a short while) that I was a French fly on the wall during that lunch.

Oh, I'm sorry, perhaps….but?…….given what I've been reading these past two days,it occurs to me that posing as two perfectly pleasant ladies who write and "run" two conspicuously light-hearted francophile blogs would be the perfect cover for two CIA (what's the British version…"MI6"?) agents. It IS the case, finally, that neither you nor Vicki are in the least specific about your husbands or families (although you have hundreds of readers who'll claim to know them well, so to speak) or exactly WHERE your homes are (although you have hundreds of readers who'll assume that they know). Basically?….if you were both undercover agents, you could be hiding in plain sight….it would be EXPECTED that you'd have lunches in Paris and post quite publicly about varying hemlines or various methods of achieving that so-desirable "patina" or pastry-crust……and it's all coded, and you're actually passing on information about the transfer of Syrian chemical-weapon stockpiles or impending assasinations.

It is amusing (for me, at least) to consider the possibility….Agents "Vicki" and "Sharon" hiding in plain sight, so to speak. Josephine Baker (among other entertainers during WW2) did, very-actually and in VERY real-life, do the very same hiding-in-plain-sight thing…..ferrying coded information disguised as sheet music, deliberately altering an evening's song-list (this was also a pre-determined code) while occupying Nazi officers applauded her at some cabaret, etcetera.

So, if you'll forgive me, I'm just going to assume from now on that you and Vicki are actually espionage agents, posing as harmless francophile-lady-bloggers.

I hope you have some mystery-novel-fan readers who'll take this notion and run with it….

Warily yours as ever,
David Terry

I would like to add, if I may, that you could have some lovely books of your own. You take the most gorgeous photographs and are an excellent story writer.
Please consider publishing a book of your own.
