knee deep in puppies

by Sharon Santoni

This post is just a little shot of cuteness to take your mind off your christmas shopping and everyday chores.

A girlfriend has six new chocolate lab pups, almost ready to fly the nest and it was just too good a chance to miss.

Not the easiest photos I’ve ever taken.  Six week old puppies have to be the liveliest squirmiest things on earth, impossible to get them facing the same way or any way for that matter.

So we used clever schemes and tricks to snap their pose.  Food is the only thing that works at this age, and a bowl of dog biscuits rattled seemed to get their attention immediately.

…. oh,

the things I do for this blog! ….

Oh,Lynda….you’re right. I looked at those pictures and immediately thought “Those puppies would make WONDERFUL pillows”.

It’s distinctly un-nerving, as a man who loves all of his own dogs, to suddenly realize that my inner Cruella DeVille was surfacing……

What is the breed of those puppies? MY GOODNESS I want one. Please, I will take whatever puppy that hasn’t been spoken for! A very good home here Wisconsin!

These are chocolate labradors , I think they are all spoken for now and Wisconsin would be a pretty long trip for a puppy in normandy!

What beautiful little puppies! Thanks for the much needed distraction.
If one was left under the tree I’d call him/her Chips….or Hershey or….oh dear…
Have a Happy Christmas!

Blue eyes and brown velvet coats—they are beautiful!! I know how difficult it is to take a photograph of a puppy that captures their essence, but you have done it…bravo!! Do they all have new families awaiting them? If not, I would be tempted…if they did not live about 5000 miles away, Thank you for a few moments of bliss, Leslie

Sharon,

These photos are most precious! We had a yellow lab that we raised from six weeks old, and he was the best dog we ever owned. He left many memories in our hearts.

What a treat it would be to receive a pup like these for Christmas.

Hi Sharon!!!!!

But, is this not the greatest way to spend an afternoon!!!!!!

The pictures are terrific!!!! Puppies go a mile a minute!!! They are so adorable!!!!
It’s so funny how dogs react to food. It’s like music to their ears. I love baby animals,
in all shapes and sizes, but, puppies and kittens always steal my heart.

Thank you for taking great pictures and sharing them on your blog!!

Hi Sharon thank you for making my afternoon with these gorgeous pups. My daughter has a gold coloured Labrador he is such a gentle creature. She has not managed to get him to eat slowly he just gulps, and he has chewed a few dog beds to death. I am happy to report she has found him a chew proof bed. We love the mutt. Regards Esther from Sydney. PS great photographs.

The Awwwwwwwww!!! factor is off the charts with those little cuties.

I worry, though, about dogs given as Christmas presents — too often, people don’t realize that they’ll grow up and not always be cute and will require lots of care and sometimes money. As the saying goes, A dog is forever.

It’s a big problem in the US, where “pet” stores sell animals from puppy mills.

Emm, don’t worry for one of them. Soon he will arrive at my sweet home where all my family give a lot of care and love !

Anyone who loves dogs should order a copy of the renowned (among other accomplishments, this very modest woman has won the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry) Mary Oliver’s newest collection: “Dog Songs”. I think it came out about three months ago.

The collection (a small volume with lovely pen& ink illustrations) is surprisingly lovely….poems (all of them short) that are beguilingly “simple” at first glance/reading. Like all of her poems….they unfold later (in case you can’t tell, I’m a great fan of her poetry, as are many other people).

I just ordered (and got) six copies of the book that I intend to give to dog-loving friends as Christmas presents.

Here’s a sample:

“We become religious
then we turn from it
then we are in need and maybe we turn back.
We turn to making money,
then we turn to the moral life,
then we think about money again.
We meet wonderful people, but lose them
in our busyness.
We’re, as the saying goes, all over the place
Steadfastness, it seems,
is more about dogs than us.
One of the reasons we love them so much”

___”How It is With Us, and How It Is With Them”. Mary Oliver, 2011.

Sincerely,
David Terry

You have captured so much love in the eyes of these puppies! We only recently lost our beloved cat. Going forward, despite being a dog lover, my husband insisted … no dogs! Then I showed him your photos. Then I had to break his heart and tell him they were in France…we are in NJ ! I think I perhaps changed his mind about a dog. Thank you.
