Amidst the flurry of shopping and baking for the holidays, there has been some early season entertaining going on here and an excuse to dress things up a bit for me.
When friends came around for a brunch last Sunday, I didn’t want the formality of a big bouquet of flowers but still wanted to make the table pretty and christmassy, country style.
I bought these lovely white hellebore, which is after all called the Christmas Rose. Took them out of their pots and stood them on cake plates then surrounded the root balls with moss. The moss was pinned into place with cocktail sticks.
Of course the beauty of this idea is that when I have had enough of the plants indoors, then go straight out into the garden to flower again this time next year. In the meantime I water the plants each day, and provided they don’t get too close to the fire, they are perfectly happy.
Hope your preparations are going well.
Coming this week, the second instalment of this year’s Christmas Tale ….

A beautiful table, indeed. Tell us, please, about those stars glittering in the background. I sense a possible new decorating trend a la Sharon.

JUST BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!
Brilliant, Sharon. I love the idea of something that will last long after the festivities come to an end. Your hellebores look so sweet all tucked into your cake plates. Smart and beautiful! XO
There is nothing more pure & elegant than a white floral arrangement as this Sharon. Do tell, those sparkling stars, what exactly are they?
White flowers are my favourite, what a clever idea to take them out of their pots and do what you did with the moss!
Not only do they last all Christmas, but, as you say, go out into the garden later.
You are so full of brilliant ideas!
A wonderful, Merry Christmas to you and your family Sharon.

That is so gorgeous! I was at our local co-op today and saw the Hellebores, so of course I picked up a couple of them. Can’t wait to decorate our table for Christmas dinner. Like quite a few posters, I love the star lights! For anyone interested there are similar lights on Amazon.com, just search for “stars curtain lights”
MERRY CHRISTMAS………stunning as always!
