flower magazine – don’t you love it?!

by Sharon Santoni

I was fortunate last week to be interviewed for Flower Magazine, an edition that I love! They ran a lovely piece about our work here at MFCH and in particular about our travels. And it reminded me of a happy day last year ….

Funnily enough, although this isn’t what led to the interview, the editor of Flower magazine turned up in my garden last spring!

I had been asked by a friend if I would open my garden to a small group of visitors from the US. I politely declined, stressing that this is NOT a professional garden, it is NOT perfectly weed-free, NOT very big and frankly NOT up to ‘open-to-the-public’ standards.

She insisted and I gave in, and somehow (although she swore that she told me) completely didn’t hear the bit when she said, “oh and by the way, the group will include designer Charlotte Moss, and Flower Magazine editor Margot Shaw”! I mean! What part of my brain chose to ignore that information!!

The day came, and I’d been planting and prepping so desperately that I almost felt out of breath. The lovely ladies arrived together (having previously been to Jaques Garcia’s place at le Champ de Bataille – no pressure!) and I welcomed them with a smile and a refreshment. It wasn’t until we started walking around the garden that I recognised Margot, and that Charlotte introduced herself.

Oh my goodness, here I was showing my humble home-made garden to absolute design professionals. I kind of wished my parterres would open up and swallow me whole.

They of course were all absolutely charming, and the visit was fun.

All of that to say, that I have been lucky enough to be featured last week in flower magazine here, and again a couple of years ago here.

Happy reading!

love your doggie. We have two wire haired terriers Beatrix Potter and Harry Potter. They are 14 and 11 and they are not related to each other. We cannot imagine life without them. They are winding down. Each day we still have them is precious.

Hello,

I am planning on visiting France for a month in the next year or so. I would like a little village area where I could get the sense of what it’s like to live in France, but I also want to be easily able to access trains and such to visit other parts of your beautiful country. Do you have an article or suggestions for me? Many thanks.

Your garden is absolutely enchanting and is exactly the kind of garden (and house too for that matter) I dream of having…. and just the type I want to see in magazines! I can’t imagine a garden I’d rather escape to.
Thank you so much for sharing Sharon and also for your inspiration.

Although, never featured in a garden magazine, I can relate to the pressure of a home garden tour. Mine were on the county’s garden tours twice and the stress to have it ready on time requires all hands on deck. Nonetheless, it’s lovely to have like-minded folks enjoy all the details we work on throughout the year. Kudos to you, Sharon.

Based on Chris’s advice on AskTom, the most efficient way to add 60 CLOB columns to your 17TB partitioned Oracle table, assuming these new columns do not require PolyTrack default values for existing rows, is to simply use the ALTER TABLE statement.
