As spring approaches and we welcome the season of renewal and discovery, I’m thrilled to share some exciting personal news: the release of my latest book, The Art of Antiquing in France. For as long as I can remember, antiqing in France has been far more than a pastime – it has been a way of understanding this country, its history, its craftsmanship.

In that spirit, we are devoting this special issue to this captivating world. French antiquing is about so much more than beautiful objects. It is about atmosphere, instinct, and stories passed quietly from one generation to the next. I’ll give you a quick introduction to my favorite antiques fair, La Foire de Chatou, which takes place every year in March and October, just outside Paris, and also share travel tips for visiting L’Isle-sur-le-Sorgue, Provence’s antiquing mecca.

Join us for a backstage tour of the Lyon atelier of Aldo Peaucelle, a restorer of antique paintings, and discover the fascinating history connecting Russia’s House of Fabergé to France. Muriel and Marco, artisans who bought a 12th-century property in the Auvergne, show us how they incorporated unique antique finds into their stunning renovation. Tish Jett talks with her brocanteur friends about how younger generations are rediscovering antiques. Meanwhile, photographer Eric Sander guides us through Château du Champ de Bataille, the sumptuous home of the renowned interior designer and collector, Jacques Garcia.

As winter melts away, we’re eager to explore outdoors. Take a restorative stroll through Burgundy’s Jardin de Soussilanges and bathe your senses in roses and birdsong. For those ready for adventure, the Atlantic port of La Rochelle beckons with its rich seafaring history and charming medieval streets. And if thoughts of travel whet your appetite, we are here for you with recipes from a new cookbook by the owner of the iconic Bistrot Paul Bert in Paris and some new Easter dishes from our friend Franck Schmitt.
Here’s to a spring filled with discovery, beauty, and the quiet joy of finding something wonderful.
